Event Description

Jennie Lee White Paper, A Policy for the Arts –
The 50th Anniversary – A Thing

The last time Stella Duffy called a session at D&D that was subtitled ‘A Thing’ it turned into Fun Palaces.

Now it’s ready to do something.
Anyone who wants to.
Anyone who wants to mark the anniversary.
To sing, dance, declaim, rant, rave, pout, protest, applaud, evoke, annoy, effect, affect, acknowledge the dreams of fifty years ago.
And how much is still to do to make real the possibilities of fifty years ago.
The hopes of arts for all, arts funding beyond London, arts in all schools, arts as a human need, acknowledged fifty years ago.

We need to be marking the anniversary of Jenny Lee and this 50th Anniversary of how far we’ve come, how far we HAVEN’T come, what has changed, what else there is to do – what hope is still here for arts for all.

We will he holding an informal creative session in the bar of Clwb Y Bont Pontypridd in the evening of Febuary 25th to Celebrate, Arts For All. This will be our 'Thing' to celebrate Jenny Lee who had a brilliant forward looking vision for the arts and education. I wonder if there will ever be a plaque for her on the wall of the building she lived in retirement in Riverside Cardiff? Hmmmmm ........

An invitation from Stella Duffy ·

if you think you might want to be part of doing SOMETHING(S) SOMEWHERE(S) on 25th February 2015 to mark the anniversary of Jennie' Lee's White paper on the Arts - to mark the gap between ambition and achievement, to celebrate what has been done, to demand more - sign up here. There's a doc/pdf you can use as a base, there's a googledoc (http://bit.ly/1AUryvt) you can use to say what you're planning to do/what you did, but above all, YOU (if you want) need to DO SOMETHING. This isn't going to be organised by anyone for anyone. It's up to us all - if we want to do something. At the very least let's see it as an experiment in what, if anything, happens when people are encouraged to do something all by themselves ... I'm hoping it's something wonderful.
