Does it take a crisis before people care about their union?

It's often said that members only want Equity when they need it. Is that true?

If it is the case then come the end of this month, when we have seen the results of the UK Government budget and the Arts Council of Wales' Investment Review, it is likely that our union will be overwhelmed by demands from members old and new.

The low pay/no pay culture has got a firm grip already & the respect we are given as artists is not always quite what we may wish, is it? It is not going to get any better - or even stay as good as it is right now - unless we all rally round. If you were waiting for a crisis before re-engaging with Equity, what are you waiting for? It's time.
