Volcano Residency

Volcano has a track-record in inspiring and engaging others, working in partnership and setting big ideas in motion. They create and tour high-impact professional theatre productions all over the world. South Wales is the company’s home – they are outward-looking Welsh internationalists with deep Swansea roots, fascinated by the place they live and make work and its relationship to other places.

Paul Davies has been at the helm of the company since its inception. He has produced countless production for the company. His no holds barred, high octane style has inspired many including the work of Frantic Assembly. Much of the recent work of the company has been site responsive for non-theatre spaces, in productions like Seagulls and Black Stuff.

During the week we will be using the Lyric Theatre, both back and front of house, as inspiration to create an informal sharing of work on the final day. The week will give you an insight into how Volcano approach devising their site specific performances.

Working inclusively
The week will also give you the opportunity to experiment in working inclusively. If you have never worked alongside learning disabled performers, the Hijinx Residencies are a fantastic opportunity to do so. A number of places at each course will be allocated to students from the Hijinx Academy, our drama training course for talented learning disabled actors. Come ready to work in a lively, empowering and massively enjoyable environment.
