Greetings Ben
That looks fascinating, I will certainly be there. Hopefully meet you then.

Here is a fantastic video of an Italian Theatre Technician tying a bowline.
The Stage Management Association Conference was very well organised as expected. Many interesting discussions Caron Jane Lyon's talk about Stage Management and the digital world was intriguing and there was alot worth following up. There was also alot of discussion about the titles of Stage Management, do they really describe the roles that stage managers undertake?
Is the DSM really a Deputy or are they a show caller or even an Assistant Director? We all know that DSMs do not necessarily make good SMs, nor do good SMs necessarily make good CSMs. Similarly a Stage Manager in a venue rarely does the same job as a touring SM , yet they have the same titles.
There was also some interesting information about Insurance policies designed specifically for Stage Managers . Further discussions were held about cuing from music and making up a complex book. The Bectu/TMA Code of conduct was discussed again and despite the fact that it has been out for almost two years, even in a self selecting group like the conference attendees, over 50% were not aware of it, let alone have read it. (Here it is :http://www.tmauk.org/Downloads/TMABECTUCodeofConduct20May2010.pdf)
All round an excellent day and great to meet so many chums
Greetings All

Hi all,
Posting here in the hope of finding a technician for a play I'm directing at the moment.
The play is 'The Master-Madam' and it's supposedly the oldest surviving Indian comedy; a one act farce. Whatsmore it's never been staged in English before and we're working with an original translation by Professor Will Johnson of Cardiff Uni. The play takes place in a fantasy garden and it's largely a philosophical dialogue between a yoga master and his servant but during the second half the yogin's soul gets swapped into the body of a courtesan, and vice-versa. Boyd Clack is playing the Yogin. We're going for a bawdy, slapstick, post-modern panto vibe with live musicians and original soundscape. We're also working with a bunch of young uns from a drama group I recently setup.
We're due to stage the 29th and 30th of March with the tech day most likely on the 28th.The venue is the theatre space at Eastmoors Community Centre, Sanquhar St, Splott. And we rehearse Monday nights 7-9pm.
If anyone's interested in helping out please drop me an email on ellora.adam@googlemail.com
