The Hijinx Residencies

Information

The Hijinx Residencies

After a fantastically successful first round of residencies from 2011-2013 in which we welcomed Complicite, John Wright, Frantic Assembly and Spymonkey to Cardiff amongst others, we are delighted that ACW offered us a  second training grant to continue our residencies.

During 2013 - 2014 we will again be inviting super-hot theatre companies and practitioners to lead week long, and sometimes longer, workshops for local practitioners and our own learning disabled performers.  The workshops are happening in Cardiff and, thanks to generous support from Arts Council of Wales, the price of a week long course starts at £150 - for a whole week!  That's like £30 a day!

This group is the place to find out all the new news, including full programme details, dates, prices.  But more than that, we want to create a place where you and we can share our thoughts, learnings and ideas from the courses.  Let us know what you thought of them, and who you'd like to see on the programme in future - we are ALL ears (and fingers, for typing).

Working inclusively

If you have never worked alongside learning disabled performers The Hijinx Residencies are a fantastic opportunity to do so.  A number of places at each course will be allocated to students from the Hijinx Academy, our advanced drama training course for talented learning disabled actors.  Come ready to work in a lively, empowering and massively enjoyable environment.

Still a couple of places left on this residency with Frantic Assembly - really is a fantastic opportunity to work with two of Frantics most experienced performers, plus a couple of days with company Artistic Director and founder Scott Graham (also choreographer of multi award winning National Theatre production of A Dog In The Night Time and NTW's Praxis Makes Perfect). The residency will also have No Fit State Circus designer Rhian Mathews on board to make sure we all look fab for the performances at Unity Festival which the residency will culminate in, followed by the End of Festival Party - you really don't want to miss this!

John Wright is now confirmed for the week of 4th March 2013 - please get in touch if you would like to apply to do his introduction to mask course!

We are also still trying to confirm a date for the Okham's Razor course which we have ahd to rearrange as they were asked to do the London Mime Festival in the week we had them booked - now searching Cardiff for a space big enough to fit their full trapese rig on the dates they are available.

We are also hoping the Joyce Henderson of Complicite will return to run a weeks course called Clowning in the Real World sometime in February 2013. Please register interest now if interested in any of these fantastic opportunities!
