Calling all Cardiff comedy / drama writers for group sitcom collaboration.

Hi everyone.

My name is Tim and I am currently starting out as a comedy / drama writer here in Cardiff. Recently, I started to think about an interesting idea that I think could work out as beneficial for any sitcom writer who wants to develop not only a full, completed script for a pilot, but also a strong base of contacts of writers here in Cardiff.

The idea is pretty simple. A comedy / drama detailing the struggles of being a sitcom / any sort of writer here in Cardiff. No falsities, just pure realism. Telling it exactly how it is. If anyone here watches Curb Your Enthusiasm then this is the sort of style I think this could take. Straight away your probably thinking that this sort of thing has been done before but what I think will make this idea stick out will purely be the fact that it will be written by not just one person. Instead there will be a group of us to bounce ideas around. This will inevitably enable variety and freshness from the project, as everyone’s different comedy writing styles will shine through.

So I haven’t really thought too much about story and characters, as this is something I wish to develop as a group with as many of you as possible. The only thing I think could work is that the sitcom could show the lives of a couple of different writers who occasionally meet in group meetings exactly like the ones I wish to organise. That will work as the anchor which brings the characters together.

If this interests you then please get in contact. The BBC Script Room deadline is the 21st May and I know it would be a rush but if we all meet up soon enough and keep the meetings and script writing regular then we could potentially come up with a pilot for that deadline. I don’t think they have a rule about scripts being sent written by a group of writers anyway.

I am going to give it a bit of time and see how many of you have replied, then I’ll organise a meeting place. Please don’t reply if you’re a nutter.

Thanks …

Hi Timothy, I'm very interested in your project. Please message me with more details either here or at dylwash@hotmail.com. Noticed how I called you "Timothy"? that's how I roll.

Cheers, D

Thanks Dylan. I just emailed the address you provided. Cheers !

Hi Chris.

Thanks for getting back to me.

In all honesty the script room deadline is a bit too close now so by the time we get a meet up sorted and actually create something the BBC will have probably been overrun by aliens, or a massive group of angry Doctor Who extras who are dressed as aliens. Either way, I'll post on here when I have arranged this get together. Cheers !

Hello Red Button Theatre and Film

My use of that word is in no way intended to cause disrespect. I am attempting to use it in comedic context, for example:

Sorry again if this sounds out of taste.

I'd be keen Tim. You can get me on darrenfloyd666@hotmail.com
