I was at the writers room/NTW collaboration yesterday too but didn't see te info going around about the competition. Can't find it on the writersroom website either. Anyone know where I can find out more?

It is a real shame that the salient point regarding eligibility to enter the BBC Writers Wales competition for new writers was not mentioned at the workshop yesterday. Namely, that they are "looking for the next generation of writers born or resident in Wales who have had at least one professional production or commission"

My idea for my pitch was bouncing round my head all the way during the 2 1/2 hour drive home.

Really enjoyed the BBC writersroom/NTW collaboration yesterday. Learned a lot from the writersroom presentation that isn't at all clear from their website, and from Kate Rowland's chat about how the thing tries to work. Having had completely conflicting responses from writersroom and from BBC Wales drama about the same piece of work, I still think they have a problem with consistency of approach, but I suppose there is little chance of removing the element of luck from the selection process.

So, clutching crossed rabbits' feet, several horseshoes, and a four leafed clover in my teeth, I'll get on with thinking of a pitch for the forthcoming competition.

Had a wonderful afternoon at the BBC writers room masterclass. Very interesting.

Thanks to everyone who came to see MUSCLE at Chapter last weekend. We hope to refine the piece and tour it so any feedback is very welcome. Also, if you can spare a minute, then email Nick Davies at ACW. They rarely get good feedback and it makes a difference to our show. We're really sorry so many people couldn't get a ticket but with the support of those who did hopefully the rest of you will later in the year. Can I just take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked on the show from the fantastic cast, designers, stage managers, video artists, composers and to Phil Williams (old twinkle toes himself. Thanks also to the ACW and Chapter, but perhaps especially to Notadigital who sponsored the Arts for the first time!

The key is to ask them how much they can afford. If it's a school then it may be buttons and pennies. If that's the case - I'm assuming you don't have an agent and I have no idea how much experience you've got - then you might want to write it, treat the rehearsals and performance as a great way of developing the piece, and retain the performing rights as soon as the curtain goes down on the last performance.

Hi Zoe,
What's the opportunity for getting the show performed again? If you think it might be a seller, then you might want to modify your estimate of cost. On the other hand, if it's definitely a one-off, you might want to consider how much they can afford to pay...working on the principle that a bankrupt customer is NOT a good customer!!

Best wishes

Nigel

Thanks for your help.

Hi Zoe,
I've done a couple of things before that haven't been on the Guild's list of rates. If you're a member and email them, then they'll be able to tell you for how much you should invoice. Hope that helps a bit!
