Youth of Creative Arts (YOCA) is a theatre company specialising in using narrative and story telling to instigate and effect personal, political and social change.Since 2005 we have been helping to create new narratives, rich with artistic and cultural diversity. At it’s core, YOCA’s mission is to enrich, develop and bring together communities, companies and individuals, using theatre, performance and story telling as an accessible platform.  We believe everyone has a story to tell. 

We are currently preparing and delivering two projects across Cardiff:

Project Fio:  

Weekly workshops at the Butetown Pavilion (Dumballs Road, Cardiff, CF10 5FE) every Tuesday 6-8pm or for our Summer School running from 11th- 30th August 2014 at the Wales Millennium Centre. Or both!

Project Fio is an opportunity for enthusiastic young people aged 13-19 to enjoy a real insight into working in the arts and how things are made for stage and TV. No experience is necessary!

Hear from organisations like the BBC, National Theatre Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre. 

Learn what it takes to create a performance and become a Performer, a Director, a Producer, a Writer, a Technician, a Designer or a Promoter- its your call. 

Work with your peers and leading professionals to develop and make a show to be performed in front audiences in Cardiff and beyond!

All participation is FREE; travel bursaries are available and lunch at the summer school will be provided.

YOCA's Black, Asian Minority Ethnic Participatory Artistic Training Programme: 

The Artists Training Programme will give participants the knowledge and confidence to develop, plan and deliver programmes of work either independently of for other providers, combining various creative processes and techniques.

We are looking for eight participants who have experiences and/or interests in different areas of the arts, people who are passionate about working with young people and communities and in gaining facilitation experience and project planning skills.

Some elements of the programme: 

Introduction and Completion:

Introductory workshops that will provide you with all the indication that you need to make the most of your gaining and the placement included in the programme.

The final three day workshops will cover any aspects that you need further clarification on. Giving you the confidence and sufficient knowledge to leave the programme and embark on further professional work. 

You need to be available for both the introductory and completion workshops which will take place in Cardiff: 

Intro: July 11th-13th 2014

Completion: September 26th-28th 2014

Placements:

As part of the course trainees will go on a minimum of one placement, these will be tailored to each participant and will include: assisting/observing and co-facilitating experienced freelance leaders on a project with one of our partner organisations such as National Theatre Wales, Welsh National Opera, Wales Millennium Centre, National Youth Arts Wales or one of YOCA’s projects. 

Mentors:

There all be experienced facilitators matched up with trainees to provide support expertise and access to networks for future opportunities and information.

Workshops:

There will be up to 4 peer-led workshops over the term of the training. Trainees will be expected to attend all of these.
