What I do:
actor and audio describer
A little more about me:
I trained as an actor at RWCMD and as an audio describer with the audio description association at The Soho Theatre, London. Since qualifying back in 2005, I have provided audio description all over Wales, both indoor and outdoor.
It feels like audio description is experiencing a bit of a surge at the moment, which is great! I'm really passionate about improving accessibility to the arts and this seems to be a growing feeling amongst more theatre companies and practitioners.
I have enjoyed bringing audio description into live performance with companies like Taking Flight and Theatr Ffynnon. This integration of audio description is certainly something that I would like to pursue further as it offers a huge amount creatively for the audience as a whole.
I look forward to collaborating with more companies in Wales and supporting the provision of the arts for all.
Location:
Cardiff
Projects I’m working on:
A sponsored bike ride for Taking Flight Theate! Before I make my way towards Pembrokeshire, I look forward to working with The Harri Parri's at Chapter Arts Centre on 9th April.

Here is some info about the bike ride, which is on my Localgiving fundraising page. To find the fundraising page, have a look at localgiving.com/taking-flight-bike-ride

Hello and thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Your support is hugely appreciated! If we do really well with the money raised, we will be able to compete for additional funding, which would be great! For this to happen, donations need to be made from April onwards. Here is what it's all about!...

My name is Alastair and I'm an audio describer for theatre. This means that I provide a live verbal commentary of a play for blind and partially sighted audience members. During the pauses in the dialogue, it's my job to find the appropriate words to paint the picture and help tell the story. I am committed towards helping more people enjoy the experience of live theatre.

I have provided audio description for various theatre companies in Wales but my closest connection is with Taking Flight Theatre. I admire the amount of effort that goes into making each performance as inclusive and accessible as possible. The inclusion of a community cast in the shows is an important part of this and does so much to boost the confidence levels and personal growth of those people involved.

All this costs money and without fundraising efforts, it's almost impossible to carry out this important outreach work and everything else that keeps making the work accessible for all.

So, with all this in mind, I decided to do my bit to raise money. This year, Taking Flight will be performing Romeo and Juliet all over Wales. I thought I would set myself the challenge of cycling to some of the places that Taking Flight will be going to this Summer.

I'll be going from from Cardiff to Merthyr to Kidwelly to Stackpole to Haverfordwest West. Along the way, I'll be calling in at schools and groups, delivering messages of love.

Im putting in the work- Garth Mountain is becoming a regular part of my training route. I feel proud to be supporting this fantastic theatre company and it would be great if you could support them too. Many thanks for your time.
