Death Shall Have No Dominion at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
18:15 1-23rd August @ The Phoenix, Broughton Street
'Reputation is … oft got without merit, and lost without deserving' Othello.
Death Shall Have No Dominion is a two part production exploring the fragility of reputation and the legacy we leave behind.
Bosworth 1485 and Mametz Wood 1916 – two battles which changed history. In 2014 decisions are made for the reburial of the King In The Car Park and we mark the anniversary of WWI. Re-examine with us the accusations of villainy levelled against Richard III and the alleged cowardice of the Welsh Soldiers at the Somme. Crowned or commoner – reputation is fragile.
The show is performed in two parts on alternate nights.
Part One: What Remains of Richard? directed by Vivien Devereux
Killed by the sword but murdered by the pen, this is the story of a King who lost more than his crown. Father, brother, husband, son and King - was he more than the villain we have come to know?
'The evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones' Shakespeare
Part Two: Mametz directed by Lyon Devereux
It is 1916 and the Battle of the Somme is raging. Tasked with taking Mametz Wood, the Welsh soldiers have dwindling supplies, heavy casualties and plummeting morale. When poor orders lead to disastrous results, history would wrongly accuse them of cowardice.
'At the going down of the sun … we will remember them' Laurence Binyon
Cast List: Anastacia Ackers, Thomas Casson, John Cooper-Evans, Helena Devereux, Lyon Devereux, Nadia Devereux, Gemma Mann, James Marks, Lewis Page, Catherine Smyth and Adam Willis.
