Sometime in the late fall of 1996, as an asylum seeker in Germany back then, I used to work in the construction business. I worked on a so-called “Baustelle” in the vicinity of Bonn. It just so happened that on one of those boring rainy days, I would work with some of the workers that claimed to be from Wales. Strong bearded men they were, these Welshmen, who rolled their tobacco…

Hi Jeton,

I was just having a look at the NTW page and noticed the information about your visit to Wales. I'm sorry we missed you! I am one of the artistic directors of Volcano Theatre. We came and performed our strange version of 'Under Milk Wood' called THE TOWN THAT WENT MAD at the National Theatre in Kosovo some years back just immediately after the war. Myself and a colleague then returned a few years later and ran a week long workshop with actors at the little fringe/childrens theatre behind the national. I don't know if you saw the show or knew of our visit to teach? We are based in Swansea - just an hour West of Cardiff. We are based in an empty shop unit - a very exciting space to run workshops/shows and events. We are in the early days of being in this new space and want to develop a programme of creative activities and exchanges here. We would love to see if we can be involved somehow and re-form our connection with you and the arts scene in Kosovo. I don't know if you are planning another visit here soon? Our website is www.volcanotheatre.co.uk. Hope we can be involved in or input into some kind of collaboration in future.

Good Wishes,

Fern Smith
