What I do:
Ceramics, performance dance and art, capoeira, singing and tutor
A little more about me:
My name is Joanna Bond i am a multidisciplinary artist living and working in New Quay, west Wales specialising in ceramics, singing, performance art, and capoeira.

Since graduating in ceramics and glass at Plymouth College of Art in 1997, I have worked as a potters assistant, as a tutor and on community art projects in Cardiff. After moving to West Wales in 2008 I have been developing a variety of ceramic work at my studio including tiles, jewellery and jugs.

My work looks at relationships and connections with the natural world and other people, and how creative activity itself connects individuals both to nature and to each other.

“I have been practicing dance, singing, capoeira along side ceramics both side by side all my life from choirs to performing live improvised sets in both movement and singing. I trained in Ballet dancing at a young age and currently in my tenth year of capoeira a Brazilian martial art.”
As a tutor I run workshops in ceramics and capoeira to community groups and schools.

In 2011 was my first solo exhibition - a response to the hedgerows being cut before the wild flowers had chance to set seed. I combined my disciplines of ceramics and song writing and singing and an art installation. I also collaborated with a surrealist practitioner to create a game, “a happening” within the exhibition space.

I am currently on a creative journey to connect the different artistic disciplines through collaboration with other artists and to create artworks which are experiential rather than purely ceramics.

Projects I’m working on:

I am working on an exciting new project that proposes to bring artists together to create a multidisciplinary performance and presentation of work, inspired by the landscape and history of the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway line.

A group of artists will walk along sections of the old railway line, to dance, to film, to sing and record; to draw and make site specific art, reconnecting the locations and histories of the line through creative responses to the journey. Sharing stories and songs along the route, the artists will blog the creation of new work as they go, developing ideas towards the final destination – a performance presentation in Carmarthen and Aberystwyth.
