Profile Information

What I do:
Artist - politically engaged, site-specific installation, interdisciplinary
A little more about me:
From the Gower Peninsula, I’m an artist currently based in Cardiff. I studied Visual Performance at Dartington College of Arts, and Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design. Since then I have created artworks for residencies, commissions, and exhibitions. My work is exhibited both nationally and internationally, and I’ve been the recipient of a number of awards and prizes, including First Prize for the Oriel Davies Open, a Creative Wales Award and the prestigious Leverhulme Trust Award.
Conceptually driven, I work across mediums, including installation, photography, video, performance, intervention, writing, and relational art. I am especially interested in 'site', exhibiting work both within the gallery and beyond - creating site-specific installations and interventions for a diverse range of sites, from bucolic woodlands to a derelict ex-Soviet power station.
My practice is an on-going exploration of the interface between nature and civilization, of the conditions of global capitalism in relation to the environment and the human condition. While political and provocative, my work is also playful, and often blurs the distinction between reality and fiction.
Location:
Cardiff, Wales, UK
Projects I’m working on:
I have recently finished a new site-specific artwork for the Oriel Davies Open, which opens in Newtown on 19th April.
In May I will be presenting my artwork 'DEMOCRACY' with ABC Gallery Moscow at Art-Athina International Art Fair in Athens.
I am now beginning research to develop a new artwork for an exhibition in Berlin in September, exploring the theme of 'ruins'. To support this I am currently attending a 5 week course at Tate Britain - 'Reading Ruins' - which accompanies and explores the Ruin Lust exhibition.
In parallel to this, I am also starting a PhD in Social Sculpture at the Social Sculpture Research Unit in Oxford. My PhD is 100% practice-based, and takes ruins as a trope for looking at site, place, memory, trauma and transformation. I'm undertaking this part-time over the next 5 years.
