What I do:
Started out as an actor and designer after doing Drama & Art at Aber (including a study tour of Japan looking at Noh & Kabuki) & was awarded a British Council grant to study theatre in Czechoslovakia 1989-90. Have always had a strong interest in non-European and what is loosely termed 'physical' & 'visual' theatre, and particularly enjoyed projects with companies such as IOU, Volcano, Cardiff Lab & its successor The Practice.
Devising pieces as a performer gave me the confidence (or foolishness) to script a one-woman piece of visual theatre "The Observatory" for Scala Revue Fantasia which was performed at Chapter, Battersea Arts Centre and the Czech Republic. That in turn led to writing for radio, more theatre and a segueway into animation.
A grant for new animators resulted in my first film "Codename Corgi" which won several major awards including Gold in Chicago, First in Bradford and 2 Bafta Cymrus. I formed my own company - Living Doll - and made further animated shorts. Animation combines all my creative passions - writing, designing, directing and even acting - but I wish it didn't take such a hell of a long time to do!
I was an associate writer with Made In Wales, and have had commissions from Theatr Powys, Theatr Gwent, Clwyd Theatr Cymru as well as continuing to work in radio, tv and film. Most recently I've been writing for Red Planet's drama series "Crash" and for Fiction Factory. Most of last year was spent writing a play about Handel for Theatre Tarquini which will be performed at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol early next year. Currently doing a shadow directing scheme through Fiction Factory on their new series "Pen Talar."
