DESIGN COMMISSION – EBBW VALE COMMUNITY PLAY (MAEN!)



MAEN! is a bilingual multi-arts community play taking place on the main stage of the Ebbw Vale Eisteddfod site on 29 July 2010 combining stories from the mythological and the real world, interweaving live action and film.

A Kind of Alaska by Harold Pinter performed by Be:spoken Theatre

On March 10-13th there is a production of 'A Kind of Alaska' by Pinter being performed at Chapter Arts Centre in the Theatre by a new company - Be:spoken Theatre. Caroline Bunce , a sublime actress in the play, suggested in her wisdom that I, Julie, merely the director, you understand, create a blog..and that i was responsible for creating such a blog because i was the director... and therefore i havent got much else to do..so here I am.

You can't possible have all the world's plays at your fingertips - or can you.

I used to be a huge collector of books and plays and reference tomes and anything printed by Penguin circa 1960 etc. The trouble is, one moves around so much (peculiarly been in the same house for 4 years now, a bit of record since leaving home) and it is such a chore keeping boxes and boxes (and I do mean dozens) and moving them or finding a home for them.



But, wouldn't it be magical if the play you wanted to read was just a couple of clicks and a postage stamp or two… Continue

POST IT!



I am sitting in a white room. There's no padding on the wall (though maybe there should be!) just lots and lots of post it notes! Brainstorming for The Beach has begun.

And so far so good.

Ideas have been flowing, marker pens have been marking, post it's have been stuck and re-stuck and we now have 4 solid themes ready to be honed and discarded and looked at… Continue
