Hopefully we can create a comprehensive list of who is out there which should improve their opportunities and make it easier to identify the many talented people currently living and working in Wales

The Fear...

I've been thinking recently about how we, as people, as artists, can sometimes let fear stop us doing things. Whether it's fear of moving to a new place, trying something you haven't done before, or laying yourself bare creatively, it's always a possibility when looking into doing new things.

Matt's profile explains a new way of thinking really well - get out of the traffic jam - but what if the…

The Evening Post Theatre, Swansea

The record breaking 22 week run ended 17th June, 2012.

Sitting in the black and pink bedecked 'bar' of Swansea's Evening Post Theatre, listening to some of my favourite rom-com soundtracks, a gaggle of women around me - this musical, in the final week of its record breaking 22 week run, already promises to be a night out any girl will love...

The Wooden Spoon

The Wooden Spoon

Setting:

A room, door to stage left – in middle of room is a table and two chairs with arms, one placed either side of the table, facing the audience – on one chair is the slumbering Sally, sat awkwardly due to the shape of the chair – on the table is a glass/crystal vase containing a number of wooden spoons with numbers painted on their bowls – at Sally’s feet is a washing up bowl and a towel is draped across her…

Young Critic's Response - Re-live : Abandoned Brothers

Re-Live: Abandoned Brothers

Chapter Arts Centre

14th June 2012

Every actor gets nervous before a performance. What if you forget your lines, what if a particularly moving scene threatens to overwhelm you, what if the audience don’t react in the way you expected? These fears are even more immediate for the ‘performers’…

Abandoned Brothers - the exhaustion that follows

Thank so much to those who came to see Abandoned Brothers last week, and to Elin Williams and Cory Ann Ship for coming and reviewing it. You both made some really good points -  this piece and Re-Live's work in general don't fit into a neat category. Maybe we're creating a new category. We're using the phrase "documentary theatre" at the moment, but it could equally be testimony theatre or witness...

For us the process has been extraordinary and the moment of hearing those…

Re-Live 'Abandoned Brothers'

“We’re talking about it, but what are we doing?”

I hesitate to say that I’m reviewing a piece of theatre; what I saw at Chapter last night wasn’t theatre. I don’t mean to disparage the performance, but it was most definitely a presentation as opposed to a piece of theatre and that’s why I’m finding it so difficult to ‘review’, in the true theatrical sense of the word.  I’m not entirely sure from which angle to write…

Assembly 04 decided!

Once again the voting culminated in a nail biting finish with proposal 10- Glynllifon emerging victors.  A beautiful country park which needs a conversation about accessibility and ownership.  With many exciting and interesting resources and a picturesque setting, Assembly 04 promises to be a great event in the making.  Also proposal 9 from Gisda, which finished 7 votes off the mark might get involved in helping deliver Assembly 04, making it a happy finish for all.  Now the challenge is to…

Max Stafford Clarke Robin Soan Collaboration

This week I have had the brilliant opportunity to work with Robin Soans, Stella Feehily and Max Stafford Clarke on a project exploring Gareth Thomas and Bridgend with the support of NTW. We are working with a brilliant groups of actors and I have learnt all about Max and Robins unique style of workshop and the verbatim style. It has been truly inspirational. Gareth has been such an honest and giving figure in the rehearsal room.  If anyone would like to know more about the process to use in…

Stab in the dark! Co-writers please!

Hia guys,

This is a stab in the dark, but I'm hoping to find a co-writer to brainstorm, and write a new play that I and a couple more would be able to perform. I know this is a far shot, but am looking to do some performances that I could invite agents to, and maybe this is a stupid idea, but worth a shot!

If anybody have any ideas, or any comments on this, they would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Quotes that inspire the mind body & soul

People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. Thus enabling others to do the same or encourage them, to shine their light at their brightest in times of total darkness…

RE-LIVE; ABANDONED BROTHERS

Post-traumatic stress disorder - an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.

They say pictures can paint a thousand words, yet the pictures we were presented in the theatre foyer at Chapter Arts Centre didn't speak words, they spoke pain, anguish, fear and resentment.

Abandoned Brothers is not particularly a piece of theatre, the cast are not professional actors, nor can it really be commended as a performance, but I do not mean to… Continue
