Overcoming Disappointment with Moneyless Movements

It is a major factor in the creative industry that we spend hours upon hours developing ideas, calculating budgets and practical necessities and then writing up proposals, only to discover 'there was such a high quality of applicants'.

Not this time, but 'we encourage you to re-apply next year'.

This was one such…

Giving and Receiving Ideas

I know creatives tend to keep their ideas to themselves for fear of someone else nicking the idea and running with it. And I know you can't copyright ideas, which is scary when you've come up with something really exciting.

But I went to my first NTW TEAM Workout session yesterday, and in discussing other people's projects and ideas I came away with loads of ideas of my own. These weren't nabbed from other people, they just grew out of conversations about other people's work. And I…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company - Aberystwyth Mon Amour

On Friday, we ventured up to Aber to film different shots for the promo of the show. The weather was absolutely fabulous - perfect for Patagonia Day...The sort of day that would make Eeyore worry for Esmerelda's well-being on the beach, and the sort of day that would make Sospan a VERY wealthy man indeed...

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for us this week - what…

Before I Leave - A View from the Wings 3

Minimini ma minimini ma mini ma

There is a moment before every performance which is almost my favourite.  The whole cast come together on stage to do vocal warm-ups.  For me it is fifteen minutes where any distinction between principals and community chorus fades away. We get our tongues, lips and vocal chords round the sounds, consonants and vowels and a strangely marvellous noise fills the empty auditorium.  NTW sets out to create a community, and this is a time where I can…

Before I Leave - A View from the Wings 2

Our lovely director Matthew Dunster left us after the Previews, his job done, and now ours really starts.

The mood in the wings has lightened as the lines, moves, reactions and exchanges become embedded.  I know what is coming up and am ready.  In the first Preview I hovered anxiously, pages too early.  Now I wait discretely, tucked away but alert and ready.  The oiled machine, company and stage management, technical crew, actors and singers move smoothly into action.  There…

Before I Leave

What a brilliant production! Congratulations to NTW and Patrick Jones for such an entertaining play. Patrick has tapped into so many issues arising out of the subject matter of Dementia. He definitely got the inner voice of all those affected. Though Welsh based this play has definitely got a universal appeal. While the play is truly entertaining I feel Augusto Boal would have been proud of Patrick subtly raising potential political issues i.e. the empathy / no empathy and cutbacks to…

Feel Good Friday

What is my purpose?

What am I doing?

Those are questions I have found myself pondering over the last few months. As I suspect many others will ask themselves those questions too at some point.

Is it ok to not know what you're doing in life? Damn right it is!

As my nan always says 'Rome wasn't built in a day' and neither will our journeys. It takes time.

That being said I've chosen a quote from George Bernanrd Shaw this week

'Life isn't… Continue
