Romeo and Juliet review

Romeo and Juliet is now open; despite wasp stings, power chair breakdowns and cuts and bruises from the fight scenes - we are successfully open! I am incredibly proud of all the cast for their energy, enthusiasm, hard work, flexibility and damn good performances.....

Day 141.1 - The Persians Day 8 - Chapter Arts Centre

The fine details of the text are worked through painstakingly. Linking the language of the play to detailed choreography. I watch the material develop and try to imagine it within the location. An impossible task as I have never been to the place. I did try, a drive by, from The Greystone's Motel near Trecastle, over the public road that bisects the military land, to Tirabad. The village was sat high up on a hill to the right, several miles from the road. It looked inviting, one of my… Continue

Day 141 - NTW06 Commuting - Arriva Trains Wales

I join the throng of early morning commuters as they make their way between Shrewsbury and Cardiff. Somewhere between 6 and 9 in the morning are the best hours of the day. The light is different, sharp, grey, blue. The day is unsullied by the lethargy of the late riser. Newspapers sit straight upon the tables, anticipating creases. I sip coffee from a stainless steel flask, a cumbersome addition to my luggage, it is necessary however... paying £1.50 for a cup of instant coffee with UHT… Continue

Kiwi Knights : Holland

"Racist!" she screams " you're a racist!"

I had just woken up into the hazey night at Antwerp, my eyes were

glazed and my mind was still very much vacant from the effects of some

of Amsterdams more notorious tourist attractions.

The surroundings were alien to me, and the coach we had decided to return to Cardiff on had become skewered across the main road.

The scene seemed obscured with much thanks to the constant screams of abuse… Continue

One reason for the missing generation...?

Why do Charlie and TJ need to bring back the missing generation? Where have they gone?

The Daily Post thinks it has one reason...

"Across North Wales...the young quit a region which is failing to provide them with decent jobs...meanwhile hundreds of older people from England are pouring in, seeking a rural…

O'Reilly's Persians three

A script has been written and now the next phase begins – Mike P and the company begin testing it, trying it, speaking it, moving it…

Persians is unlike other processes I’ve undergone as a writer. When I’ve been perhaps the originator of a text, the first weeks of rehearsals are…

A Midsummer Night's Dream - The Gate Theatre 16th July

In these days of cut-backs (especially in the arts) any new Welsh theatre company should be welcomed and supported. For their first production " BareKnuckle Theatre" chose the audience friendly " A Midsummer Night's Dream". Founded to " take the performance out if performing" they surfaced at the non-actor friendly Gate Theatre. Being an ex-church the acoustics are notoriously poor which penalizes fast speakers and and any action at the back of the…

end of week 1 THE PERSIANS

Well it's Friday....end of week 1...how did that happen?! What better way to end a first week of rehearsals of The Persians, than a cider and perry festival at Chapter?! All we need now is for the sun to come out!

As part of my 'Greek Epic 'Research' I watched '300' (based on Frank Miller's book) last night (besides admiring the many six packs) it was very visually pleasing and surprisingly entertaining.... ( I'm not usually one for films where lots of people kill each other in… Continue
