Day 84 - Paddling down the Wye - The River Wye

18 miles doesn't sound like a long way to paddle in a canoe. I can assure you that it is. There were only two stretches of water that seemed to be moving, the rest of it was like raking gravel. The Sun was unrelenting so I covered myself in factor thirty and tied a shirt around my head. Harry and I managed to avoid sinking more than once. We had just tried to release the stag's boat into the river but hadn't managed to get away ourselves before our boat was over turned and my flip flops… Continue

hello sunshine!

Apparently the sun is going to shine until Tuesday which is just perfect for us. We're off to Prestatyn again tomorrow until Tuesday to do more playtesting. 3 days, playing games on the beach in the sunshine, hmm, am I really working?

Well yes, actually, pretty hard but I'm pleased to say things are really coming together now and seeing people playing our games and seeing how well they work (or don't work) is a really exciting stage to be at. The people we've met in Prestatyn…

Review: WHEN HARRY MET SALLY (Stage Adaptation)

Perhaps, in the last two decades, Hollywood has seldom delivered a love story that has been as endearing as, When Harry Met Sally. Nora Ephron’s penned tale that talks about two idiosyncratic characters—Harry Burns and Sally Albright-- finding love in each other, over a period of twelve years and three months, somehow, just…

Google celebrates Pacman today - and you can play

Google are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic game Pacman today.

You can play it too. Amazing. Go to google.com and click Insert Coin. Eat the pills. You need to avoid the ghosties but you can eat them if you've taken a power pill.

As a budding game designer, try and figure out the algorithm - the "recipe" if you like - which is guiding the… Continue

Barmouth trip

Matt, Devinda and I went to Barmouth last week, had a wonderful time, met gorgeous people, gazed at the incredible landscape and resisted with great difficulty to an invasive feeling of holidays.
There'll be more Barmouth trips and residencies to come, every week until the end of For Mountains, Sand and Sea, our 4th show that opens on 25th June and we are very much looking forward to go back up next…

Reading Unwrapped

What novels have you stayed up all night reading? Which plays would you travel miles to see? What poems have you carried with you for years? Reading Unwrapped knows people have shelf-loads of writings they love, so we're making a chance for them to be brought out into the open so everyone hear them too.…

Strangers International Youth Theatre Project is reaching out across South West Wales

The Strangers 2 project builds on our success with the Strangers International Youth Theatre project in 2007 but this time we will be empowering young people from not only Brynaman but also wider Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Powys and Pembrokeshire to create an original piece of theatre with young people in Hong Kong, NZ and Australia! We are looking for any organisations working in these areas with disadvantaged or marginalised groups of young people who would benefit from engaging in an exciting… Continue

Day 83 - Wye Aye Man - Hay

I'm off to Hay to stalk the festival and figure out how the land lies. Last time I was there I was shouting obscenely from behind a microphone at a crowd of Wedding guests. This weekend I will be paddling down the river in pursuit of another friend, pre-wedding. I imagine it will end in tears. His not mine. Though actually quite probably mine too.

Fingers crossed there is space at the talk in Hay next weekend. Still waiting to hear back from John and Lucy on that…

Day 82 - Standing Very Still on Screen - Nant y Moch (well almost)

Sam brought the current edit of the Welsh Landscape work around last night. The images look great but the piece doesn't hang together conceptually. We need to find a way to tighten it up. Looks like its going to involve another 15 hours of standing very still. Thankfully its getting sunny now.

Its time for me to give it a go somewhere else... eventually at the locations for NTW. The images are incredibly pensive. They speak volumes about the places without actively…

The Devil Inside Him. Review

I attended the NTW premiere of The Devil Inside Him at the New Theatre in Cardiff. The queues that overflowed onto the street, the buzzing, full house atmosphere, the sense of anticipation and support, mirroring my own state of mind. Advertising had been clever and intense, promising a look into a modern classic author’s first play, just recovered from dusty oblivion; John Osborne’s first ever staged play.…

Day 79 - Standing by the Lake - Nant Y Moch

It all ended at about 3am with Sam brandishing a replica revolver and me hiding under the table why he shouted something about god knows what. Up to that point we had been quite productive. At least in the planning process.

We managed to collect documentation of 3 more landscapes. And hour and a half of standing by a lake. Or in Sam's case half an hour of standing and half 15 minutes of bouncing up and down.

I remember the sound of the car…

Day 78 - Running Away - Up on the hill again, Aberystwyth

Despite being very late to bed I managed to extricate my-self from my nest and throw my body into an athletic encounter with constitution hill.

I passed a number of revelers from the night before who looked impressed by my commitment to traveling along the sea front quite quickly. Hundreds of women in pink covered the prom. Either in preparation for, or after, the race for life. Life boats bounced across the waves and for a moment I was fooled into thinking that…

Day 77 - Aberystwyth 10 Years on - Aberystwyth Arts Centre

Just got back from a 10 year reunion. 10 years since my year graduated from university. Well actually 10 years since my first uni year graduated. I had an an extra special year which means that I will get to go to another reunion next year as well. I am now in my 9th year of university study. Nine years of university.... hmmmm.... how did that happen? I will have spent 11 years at uni by the time this thing is over.

Its funny how the faces of your friends change so much and…
