My Body Welsh – a Rite of Passage?

A little troupe of members from TEAM took up Rachel Rosen’s offer to see My Body Welsh by Tara Robinson and Steffan Donnelly last Thursday at Galeri in Caernarfon. The play is a monologue, exploring ‘the role storytelling plays in constructing national identity’ and it is BRILLIANT (and it’s not just me saying that – see Wales Arts Review for a thorough and eloquent review ).…

Day 4 - Digging Down: The Sharing!

18.55. I was chatting to Simon Coates, dweller in the caban in the garden, thinking it was 1800hrs, that I really should go and get changed, wondering why people seemed to be turning up so early ... the danger of a stopped clock. Simon gently pointed out that it was in fact 18.55. I dashed home, changed, ran up to meet the guests at the barn car park. Time has a funny way of…

Waleslab R&D: Day 3 (stagger through!)

All our ideas on little notes. Too much, much too, too much.

We knew it, really. But wanted to try. Put it into a structure.

It’s R&D after all (hold that thought)

Typed it up.

Did stagger through. We gave it a good shot, some flowed, some was beautiful, we missed the guests, we giggled and relaxed, held it…

Digging Down R&D Week, Day 1

The exploration gets underway with sounds, words, drawing, stories, questions, traces ... recapping, layering, lists, ideas for tomorrow:  a sense of the shape of things emerging, in pieces... The day ends with a list of what we do know, or things that we think we will develop further, and what we don't (yet) know. It is encouraging. We recap with Louise. We…

Spring - clean - electrics

The thing about doing a risk assessment is that it makes you assess... risks. Ours were mostly electrical. So today, we re-did the electrics.

And while Gethin was doing that, and Ed reducing the risk of the giant wire fencing ball hanging in…

Waleslab R&D: revelations!

Yesterday afternoon, my lovely Waleslab project collaborators, Sam Fox and Chris Dugrenier arrived from the midlands for a pre R&D week visit.

It was our first meeting together. The meeting of minds, interests, skills, ideas, perfect. Complementary. The weather: Not. Mountains shrouded, wind, driving rain. After a bit of lunch, we set out for the barn. Borrowed…

Three journeys, three performances

Cardiff, Big Democracy Project at the Oasis Centre (9 – 13 March)

Watching, learning.

Experiencing.

Trying to open up, confront my edges.

I nearly start to sing.

I nearly start to dance.

I nearly cry.

I laugh, and laugh.

I learn and learn.

I love all these people.

“We will never…

Bringing sound and taste: Sam Fox (Kiln Theatre) and Gert Vos (Oren)

At last I've got my team together for my Waleslab project!  And I think it's looking so exciting, and so international: Sam Fox (from South Wales) is joining Chris. Dugrenier (from France) and I to spend 5 days developing "Digging Down: Fragmented Totalities".  I met Sam last weekend, before going to her her fantastic show, Lady Gogo Goch (which also started as a Waleslab…

Theatre/Archaeology by Mike Pearson and Michael Shanks

Kate Lawrence told me about it.

I found it on-line for free, initially.

It was love at first read. I am made sense of, stretched, deepened, connected and energized. I had no idea.

Archaeology / performance / Cymru.

An exhilarating journey: We lingered in wonderful places like performative models of knowledge, cultural identity and…

Hen Ysgubor / Adref Newydd

“We were very torn” she said

“My grandmother wanted it to be an art studio”.

I wanted to say something

Like

“Mae’r pentre ‘ma yn mynd i farw. Peida, plis.”

But she has a baby

I don’t want to be violent.

Choked

I waited.

“But now I have a daughter”…

Introducing Chris Dugrenier - beginning the conversation, and ending with a bonfire

I’m absolutely delighted to announce my first collaborator!  Chris. Dugrenier.  (See Chrisdugrenier.com or see her NTW community profile). Chris is an inspirational performance and choreographic artist who has a beautiful way with words and movement and an incredibly present and open way of working that leads to refined and pared down performances.

I…

Introducing "Digging Down: Fragmented Totalities"

My Waleslab project, ‘Digging Down: Fragmented Totalities’, is … finally …. emerging! I wanted to capture this moment by starting a blog. A place where I can say a little more about the idea, and perhaps a bit about the process of working on it too.

To start at the beginning.…
