Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

We have had a greet weekend.

We were lucky enough to be part of the Garnswllt Activity Centre's Weekend of Art.

We were reading and performing poems and offering workshops and generally having a great time. If you've not ventured to Garnswllt Activity Centre before then I strongly advise you to take a trip to the top of Shilling Hill and pop in. It is amazing. It is based in the Old School House which closed in 2006. Now redesigned, developed and run entirely by volunteers, it…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...Fund-Raising for Aberystwyth Mon Amour

On May 20th, in Anthemion Auctions in Cardiff, we are auctioning an Andrew Vicari portrait of Dylan Thomas to raise funds for the company. The Neath-born artist donated the portrait to us with the sole purpose of raising funds to help us stage 'Aberystwyth Mon Amour'. Vicari met Thomas often in his early years in art college in London and says that he has become 'bsessed with him over the last few years'. This article says a great deal about the artist's obsession.…

Life in a Small Scale Theatre Company - New Show on Bikes

We are delighted to announce that we are working on a new show with Sustrans Cymru to celebrate National Bike Day on the 13th June and the development of the Swansea Cycle Way on the old route of the Swansea-Mumbles Railway. It will celebrate the history of the railway, some of the characters you could meet along its route and the great expanse of Swansea Bay - the working title? The Life Cycle of the Bay.

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company

We have spent the last few weeks updating our website, with the help of the fantastic team at Copper Bay Creative. Check it out - www.lighthouse-theatre.co.uk - a big thank you to Ben and all of the team over there.

Also, we are pleased to say that we have a new show premiering at the Garnswllt Activity Centre on the 2nd May. It's a mythical story-telling piece called Taliesin, A Teller of Tales...no prizes for guessing what it's…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

After the wonderful madness of one Christmas and autumn tour you have to start thinking of the next one...so the last few days have been spent looking at a number of things. We'll be booking our autumn tour over the next few weeks. Do we go for Coward or do we go for Shearman? We'll let you know next week! When we do...

In the meantime, we have a Return Journey in Sketty Primary School and workshops for the Swansea Little Theatre to prepare...no rest, as they say - Thank God!

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...The Chimes

So the final week of The Chimes is upon us...Abergavenny, Swansea, Chepstow, Porthcawl....Spring, summer, autumn, winter - it had laboured on its destined round and now laid down its weary head to die...

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...The Chimes

We have had the most amazing couple of weeks - touring up North and in the West. Many thanks for the welcome we have got everywhere. Moreover, a huge thanks to our partners on The Chimes, Pontardawe Arts Centre - if anyone wants to know how to run an Arts Centre, just go there. Brilliant.

Here's a review of the show.…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...The Chimes

We have just returned from Llanfechain, right on the border between Oswestry and Welshpool. What a wonderful village hall it is. We had a great reception in a hall as the village was playing football on the pitch next door. The community has pitched together to raise the money to save and re-develop the hall and what a great job they've done. The community flocked to support the show and The Chimes was played to a packed house filled with the villagers from 8 to 80 years of age. Thank you.…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

We opened our latest show, On Scarborough Front, this week in Cefn Hengoed School, Swansea, and have performed all over the county and in a few theatres too. Stuart Fortey, the author, has done a great job at presenting a very human story of two men in the face of war coming to terms with their responsibilities and fears, and the students have responded really well to it (I even overheard one saying 'I think I might have cried at the end'). Performing in schools is so important, especially…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

So; we move on to the next project...Huw Novelli is working with us again on On Scarborough Front; a lovely piece about Wilfred Owen's recuperation after his stint at Craiglockart. We are performing predominantly in secondary schools around Swansea but we have two public performances too - The Ostreme Centre, Mumbles on November 7th and the Swansea Grand on the 8th. This is his first appearance as Wilfred...…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

Over the last year, we have been deeply involved in the DT100 Festivities. One of our shows is called, Reminiscences of Childhood, and is based on his fantastic collection of short stories, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog. Earlier this year, it was filmed for a documentary by Telesgop in St. John's Church, Carmarthen. Here is a small clip of the show and the accompanying interview.…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...

Well, Return Journey has finished - it has been great being part of the DT100 Festival (and we continue to do so with more Dylan performances in October, November and December). Return Journey was attended by people from all over the world - literally - and it gives you an idea of Dylan's popularity and how this festival has highlighted Wales and Swansea in particular. Also, we have been lucky enough to get some great notices for the piece and it has increased our profile…

We are looking for a South Wales based female actor for roles in our forthcoming production of The Chimes - touring village halls, arts centres and theatres this Christmas.

Charles Dickens' seasonal morality tale has been adapted for five actors, with further devising to be done by the company. We are looking for good company members who are comfortable with devising and working with new scripts. The production will be directed by Derek Cobley.

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...Aberystwyth Mon Amour

Sadly, the fedora, the ice cream and the stovepipe hat are going back into storage, and Esmerelda and the team are off to the donkey sanctuary for a bit of well-earned rest. They say never work with animals or ice cream; well, we have to disagree, they have been simply marvellous, never complaining, never missing a call and stealing the show in Aberystwyth.

Both Esmerelda and the vanilla will hopefully be back in the Autumn of 2015...

Also, a huge thank you to Malcolm, Abi and the…

Life in a Small-Scale Theatre Company...Abersytwyth Mon Amour

It has been an average week in the kingdom of Welsh Noir...Louie Knight has been thrown down the stairs, Sospan has served a new ice cream flavour, Eeyore has cleaned up after the donkeys, Herod has run up and down the prom, Myfanwy has sung, Bianca has met the vicar, Mrs. Llantrisant has swabbed the front and Calamity? Well, Calamity has helped many a scarved old lady win a TeasMade in the Promenade Bingo Hall...but things are never quite what they seem on the mean streets of Aber...…
