Who let you in here?
Clowning is empowering. Contrary to popular opinion, Clowning isn't about finding a character and it isn't about wit or cleverness either, being a clown is the direct opposite of being a stand up comedian. Clowning was originally a form of street entertainment.
Clowning is about playfulness. In fact clowning is the key to playfulness because clowning is about being laughed at. It’s the art of exploiting your own stupidity…

Well - we are open. Working in an open country park is so fantastic as there is so much passing 'trade' people who may never have considered watching a Shakepeare have found themselves captivated by the rehearsals and performances and joined the audience on their journey. Hearing people saying 'life should have more of this' is possibly one of the loveliest things I have heard as a director. Hearing the giggles of small children as they race the cast to the next location and the belly…

Today has been a day of Filth, farts, kisses and a lot of laughter. Great performances are starting to emerge, the design is looking lovely and the music is coming on a treat, Tomorrow we move outside ( surely it can't be as cold as De Gabay?!) with a double duvet, coconut bra and some space hoppers...so much fun to be had.
Tour dates on www.takingflighttheatre.co.uk spread the word...it'll be a romp!

Well - December certainly crept up on me! Next week a lovely group of actors will be presenting a script in hand performance of Gary Owen's Free Folk for Michael Kelligan's O the Edge Season. The cast have been a joy to work with and I am very proud of what we have achieved in such a short space of time - especially from one member of the cast who only joined us last week due to a 'last minute' recast!!
I think they all hate me at the moment though as I have put loads of extra…

Thanks to an amazing bunch of die hard theatre makers - the show will go on!! So corney I love it!
So although most of the crew feel like our heads haven't touched the pillow for the last week or so and we are drowning again in a sea of cardboard - we have transformed a new venue ( it's an actual working theatre - which is a little strange for me but I kind of like it in a quaint way).
I would just like to say a huge thank you to all at Mandan Productions for…

Just a quick blog to let anyone know who was thinking of coming to see Barefoot in The Park tonight that tonight's show has had to be cancelled due to the fact that the venue leaked so badly last night that we had to abandon our dress rehearsal and re - assess the situation (bloody rain)....it was too dangerous to continue with lights etc so we are desperately trying to find a new location and hoping we will open on wednesday once we have rebuilt the set in a new space!!!!
If anyone…

Pillows dropping from the heavens, sleep walkers, crazy chickens, a little slice of Film Noir and loads of quality exciting theatre. The Unity Festival - hosted be Hijinx Theatre is in it's forth year now and what a programme! I am not being totally altruistic here - Taking Flight has a show I directed on during the family day on friday. It is one of the last chances to…

It doesn't seem like five minutes ago I was having a meeting with Mark Ryan about adapting this story from the Mabinogion and now we have had our preview! The sun shone all day - the cast sweated in their waterproofs, fake fur and leather costumes - as we had prepared for the usual damp weather! And despite a few near misses with over zealous mountain bikes and an…

I just wanted to say a huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in Love Steals Us from Loneliness. I am immensely proud to have been part of this production. Everyone involved made my experience fantastic. The cast were amazing and I learnt so much from a brilliant director and was priviledged to work on such fabulous writing, with a first class back stage crew.
So thank you NTW & Sherman Cymru for producing such an inspiring and relevant piece - made all…

Well we had a wicked rehearsal tonight at Bridgend College with an amazing group of Young People! The cast were re directed a number of times and Katie was shaking her booty about with her red rehearsal knickers round her ankles, ripping off the tops of testtube shots with her teeth and throwing them around the space...what an energy they created and what fantastic feedback and ideas they generated.
lovely to see bits of the play in front of an audience too - what a difference…

Well it's nearly thursday and I haven't blogged yet this week - you must all be missing me!
I have been trying to get some nice video moments form rehearsal but the camera I have keeps embarrassingly beeping when it is turned on - highly distracting for the actors - so I haven't managed to get much yet. I will try my best to get some tomorrow and attempt to upload them before the weekend.
This week has been a trip down memory lane into the hazy, boozy days of…

As we decended on Bridgend again, the sun was shining and we all boarded the open top bus ready for our guided tour of Bridgend courtesy of our lovely tour guides Katie and Mark. It was fab to actually build up a physical picture of the town.
We toured around the various sites mentioned in the play - visited many drinking establishments - had a sneaky peak in The Roof and familiarised ourselved with the 'pub crawl'. I had an education into the 'shots' culture...I felt…

Dutifully doing my homework, I am currently trawling through the script to find all references to places in Bridgend - so that tomorrow we can visit them all and put everything into context. Really looking forward to seeing all of these landmarks as we take a guided tour through Bridgend courtesy of local actors Katie and Mark! I'll let you know how it goes and hopefully I will soon have learnt how to upload some video so I can give you some little 'bytes' of rehearsals..bye for…
