Bursary opportunity for participation in Magdalena Legacy and Challenge Festival August 2011

The Magdalena Project 25th Anniversary

Five Bursaries for Welsh Practitioners to Attend and Work on the Legacy and Challenge Festival in Chapter (Cardiff) 16-21 August 2011

Twenty five years ago a group of women working in contemporary theatre across Europe decided to hold an international festival bringing practitioners from around the world to Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, Wales. This inspirational event was the beginning of the Magdalena Project; an international network of women in contemporary theatre now working in over 50 countries around the world.

Legacy and Challenge is a six day festival celebrating the achievements of these pioneering Magdalenas who will come together to provide a programme of workshops, masterclasses and performances. Twenty five years marks a turning point in the Magdalena Project and is a time for both reflection and creative contemplation. This is an opportunity to be part of the next twenty five years!

The Magdalena Project is offering five bursaries/internships for Welsh/Wales based practitioners to get involved in the festival. Legacy and Challenge brings together an unparalleled and diverse body of expertise in contemporary theatre in one place in Wales. These bursary/internships will provide:

-        A FREE place at the six day festival with the opportunity to attend workshops, masterclasses and performances from an exciting range of international practitioners and theatre makers

-        Festival Management: the chance to get involved in the delivery of a festival, to see how a diverse programme works in practice and gain an understanding of festival management

-        Inspirational International Performers and Practitioners: the chance to meet the speakers, the workshop/masterclass leaders and performers. To share experiences and make cultural connections/collaborations

Who knows where the opportunity might lead? Do you have aspirations to work internationally? To collaborate with inspirational women who have overcome incredible challenges to make work?

If you would like to apply for one of these bursary/internship places, please tell us in no more than 250 words how this opportunity could benefit your current practice and on-going development. Put this event in the context of your creative work to date; make connections and identify how being part of Legacy and Challenge excites you!
