Cast needed for 'The Hunting of the Snark' in London on 1st September...

Cast Needed for one day promenade production of 'The Hunting of the Snark' in London on 1st September.  Unpaid but may include some money for expenses.  I'm posting here in case of interest to any London based Welsh actors...

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS SUNDAY 4TH AUGUST

On 1st September 2013, Iris Theatre and Space Between will present a new promenade production of Lewis Carroll's poem 'The Hunting of the Snark'.  With 8 starting times leaving at half hour intervals the production will feature 7 different theatre companies each presenting one 'fit' of the poem. The opening 2 fits will be directed by Lisa Wells-Turner from Space Between.  Estimated to be about 15-20 minutes in length actors will need to be prepared to perform it 4 times in 2 hours twice during the day.  The audience will number a maximum of 30 people at a time and there may be some interactive elements.

For these first 2 fits, we are looking to cast actors strong with classic texts who are comfortable with promenade performance.  There is also some capacity within the production to exploit additional individual skills and talents.  The actors will work as a tight ensemble and the finished piece may include some physical theatre.

Actors will need to be available on the 18th and 30th August as well as the 1st September and there will be 3 other rehearsal dates beside these (details to be arranged).

Auditions will be on Tuesday 6th August with second round/1st rehearsal on Wednesday 7th August.

While this role is unpaid we hope there may be some payment made towards travel expenses.  This is still to be confirmed.

Role breakdown:

The Bellman (probably male  - age 18-50)

The leader of the expedition, the Bellman is charismatic, charming, polite, obsessive and fundamentally incompetent.

We are looking for a strong actor who relishes working with comic prose to create the character of the Bellman.  Working as part of an ensemble, this will be the one performance which stays in one character throughout and has no function as a narrator at all.  Should be a fun and exciting challenge for the right performer.

Ensemble (any gender - age 18-50)

In addition to the Bellman we are looking to cast 4 or 5 performers who will work together as a chorus.  Taking responsibility for most of the text in the first two fits, they will need to work together, bounce off the audience and also take on the persona of other characters in the narrative including the Baker and the Butcher.

Again performers will need to be well trained in using classic texts and have a good understanding of the specific challenges of comic verse.  Actors should be open to working physically in close proximity to the audience.
