Changing Rooms, Changing Lives - please share!

Changing Rooms, Changing Lives- Local Young Entrepreneur Short-listed for National Competition, Needs Your Help!

Hello All,

My name is Emily Hesketh,  I am 17 years old and I am currently a student in Coleg Llandrillo finishing my first year in Applied Science. I was previously a student at Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School in Rhyl. I  have always had an interest in business and wanting to make a positive difference in people’s lives. I am excited to share that in a Carnegie Trust Test Town competition, out of 400 submissions, my business idea, Changing Rooms, Changing Lives (CRCL) is 1 out of 35 shortlisted within the UK and 1 of 5taking part in Test Town Rhyl! I am so proud as it is something I feel so passionate about and really believe that it could help play a part in breaking the cycle of high youth unemployment.

What is Changing Rooms, Changing Lives all about?

Changing Rooms, Changing Lives (CRCL) is a trendy retail shop targeted at unemployed young people helping to increase their chances of a successful interview (job or educational) by helping them feel and look their best through offering:

Interview Clothes & Stylists

CRCL will stock donated good quality interview clothes and accessories that will be loaned through different packages, dramatically reducing the cost for young people and their families who may be on low incomes or who have a limited wardrobe.

College students can be involved in providing Fashion, Hair & Beauty advice enabling them to gain valuable work experience - young people helping young people.

Employability Services

CRCL would like to work in partnership with local agencies who are already providing employability courses such as interview training, job clubs, confidence building, mindfulness coaching . etc

Why have I contacted you? I have contacted you, as I believe you could support me and my idea.  It could be any of these ways:

Do you deliver any employability courses and would you like to be involved?,

Do you work with any fashion, hair and beauty students or media students, who would like the opportunity to be involved?

Do you have any used quality business clothes or accessories or new stock that you would be willing to donate?

Do you have any links with stores that might be interested in sponsoring CRCL?

Do you have any feedback or good ideas that would improve CRCL?

Do you work with any young people who would be interested in volunteering in a variety of ways either behind the scenes or on the trading days?

I have been awarded a £500 development grant to help prepare for 2 days test-trading in Rhyl Town Centre on June 27th & 28th. If I am successful in this local heat I will then compete in the Test Town Grand Final in Cambridge in October 2014 with the opportunity to win £10,000 and to have a month trading on Oxford Street, London which would be be an amazing opportunity for CRCL to grow and to represent Denbighshire.

For more info visit:  testown.org.uk

Even if I did not get to the grand final, I would still love to develop and roll CRCL out across the UK, to change young people lives for the better.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this very long email. I have attached a poster that I would be grateful if you could display in your workplace or forward to any of your contacts that you think appropriate. Plus, If you would like your workplace, or know somewhere useful where a drop off zone would be successful please let me know.

Thanks again - any support is greatly appreciated.
