Joker Training 1: Forum Theatre and the Aesthetics of the Oppressed

There are two places available for people in Wales with experience of Forum Theatre. Please let me know by February 12th - iwan@cynefin.org.uk

1. TIME AND PLACE:

Hosted by C.C. Media Artes, the training will take place in Ohrid, Macedonia, starting on 13th of March 2010 (arrival day) and ending on 21.03.2010 (departure day).

2. CONTENTS OF THE TRAINING:

The training is the first in a series of advanced trainings bringing together European operators who have been working with Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) in the last few years and some of the young people who they are mentoring to become Jokers. 30 participants coming from Wales, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia will be involved in the 7-days training.

This first training focuses on the role of the Joker (a TO facilitator) in creating and jokering effective Forum Theatre within the context of the latest developments of in the aesthetics of the oppressed.

3. PROFILE OF THE PARTICIPANTS:

Each partner organization is expected to send 3 representatives to participate in the training. Ideally, the partner organization is expected to send participants that fit into the profile described above (i.e. one more-experienced Forum Theatre joker and two people who have some previous experience in FT and would like to get trained into FT jokering). We are aware that there are one or two organizations among the partners who have no previous experience with Forum Theatre; for those organizations it is fine to send participants that have proper motivation and clear intention to work with Forum Theatre in future.

4. TRAINERS:

The training will be lead and delivered by Ms. Birgit Fritz from TDU-Wien ("Theatre of the Oppressed-Vienna") organization and Mr. Iwan Brioc from Cynefin, Wales. Both Iwan and Birgit are ones of the core people behind the "Republic of Imagination" international school of Context Oriented Theatre. I believe that most of you are well familiar with the trainers, but for those of your participants who aren't I'm sending you the document with a pen-picture of the trainers (in the attachment).

5. COSTS

According to the rules of the YiA, the Media Artes will cover for the following costs:
-Accommodation and food of the participants, during the 7-days of the training-100% of the costs;
-Travel costs, with 70% of the actual costs (cheapests means of transport from their place of living to Macedonia and back). Participants need to keep all their bills, boarding passes etc, in order for us to be able to reimburse the 70% of your travel costs;
-Activity costs and
-Training tool costs

The participants need to contribute with 30% of their travel costs.
