New theatre group Teflonstage is premiering 'Lili' at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl on 19th and 20th June at £7.30pm. Tickets £9.50 (concessionary tickets £7.50) Box Office 01656 815995. Director: Jamie Lee of actorsworkshop, Cardiff. Ass't Director: Gary Knowles. Music Dir: Michael Plowman. Choreography: Margaret Lawrence-Waters.

'Lili' relates the story of 'Lili Marlene', a worldwide hit in spite of vigorous opposition from Joseph Goebbels and some from the BBC's Dance Music Policy Committee. There are five great acting/singing roles for women, the show is by turns funny and poignant, and combines live music, an ensemble performance and authentic film clips from the period. Figures portrayed are Marlene Dietrich, Vera Lynn, Lale Andersen, Anne Shelton and Zarah Leander. Josef Goebbels get a few lines as well.

Apart from it being a great deal of fun, an interesting aspect of this production is the synergy between the show and local communities, with the performances at the Pavilion designed to raise funds for veterans' organisations. With template publicity design, a 16-page retro-style newspaper as programme, and supporting material for schools, this production can be taken to other theatres and used for enjoyable fundraising/education.

Teflonstage is part of Kestrel Books Ltd, an educational publisher. Last year it created, again with Jamie Lee and Gary Knowles, a show for international students in the UK. 'One if Five' is an entertaining intro to British culture and got a rave review at the Bournemouth Literary Festival last year.
