MALE PERFORMER REQUIRED FOR THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

Welsh National Opera is looking for a male performer to participate in a new production of Andre Tchaikowsky's The Merchant of Venice this autumn.  This will be directed by Keith Warner and conducted by Lionel Friend.

Rehearsals start on 17 August 2016 at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and continue until the opening performance (see below) and all applicants must have good availability within this period (although reasonable NA requests will be considered)  There will be brush-up rehearsals in Cardiff during week commencing 10 July 2017 and a rehearsal in London week commencing 17 July 2017 in preparation for the performances at the Royal Opera House

Performances:

Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff - 16 September 2016; 30 September 2016

Bristol Hippodrome - 11 October 2016

Southampton Mayflower - 1 November 2016

Birmingham Hippodrome - 8 November 2016

Venue, Llandudno - 22 November 2016

Royal Opera House, London - 18 July 2017; 20 July 2017

We are looking for a male performer with North African or similar ethnic appearance to play The Prince of Morocco in The Merchant of Venice which is set at the turn of the 19th century.  This is a high energy role which is heavily movement based so the performer needs to be physically fit.  A background in dance would be desirable although not essential.  This is a non-speaking, non-singing role.

Details of the financial package will be provided upon request to Amy Batte (see below).

Application is by CV (which must include a photograph) in the first instance, although a shortlist of candidates may be invited to audition on 23 June.  Please email CV's to amy.batte@wno.org.uk by Wednesday 15 June 2016
