NTW TEAM Workout - 7th July: How to take part...

Hi Everyone

NTW TEAM Workout will take place on Sunday 7th July at Volcano in Swansea (229 High Street, Swansea SA1 1NY). It's a new event which aims to provide you with space and time to work practically on ideas.  If you'd like to find out more check out the introductory blog here.  There's a group set up for it here which should have all information on it in one place.

We are really hoping you will come along and take part.  There are two main ways to do this:

1.  Donate your skills (be they acting, directing, writing, etc) for the day.  No commitment, no preparation, just come and do the thing you love most for a day.

How to sign up:

We'd appreciate it if you could let us know you're coming just so we know what type of practitoners will be in the room.  There are two ways of doing this:

i) You can sign up to the NTW Event here- and we'll check out your NTW profile.

or ii) you can drop me an email at lisawellsturner@gmail.com (just let me know what you do - ie, 'actor', 'director', 'unicyclist' etc)

If you can let us know as soon as you know that would be very helpful.  Generally we won't be assigning people to projects (aim is to do this on the day through an open space type system) but we may contact you in advance if you have a specific skill set which matches what someone else is looking for.

2.  Bring along an idea you want to work on.  This can be absolutely anything theatre based which requires other practitioners (examples might be a piece of script, a performance piece, workshop ideas, etc).  We will do our best to match you up with the type of practitioners you are looking to work with.  In return we'd ask you to hang around for the whole day and donate your skills in turn to other participants.

How to sign up:

All you need to do, to guarantee a time slot, is email lisawellsturner@gmail.com by Tuesday 2nd July and let me know the type of thing you're bringing and the type of practitioner you're looking to work with.  For example, 'I'm bringing a short script and I want to work with three actors and a director'; 'I'm bringing a physical theatre concept and I'm looking for a unicyclist and someone who plays the clarinet'... you get the idea.

We're asking for this information in advance so that we can organise the day properly and maximise the time and space available.  We can't guarantee who'll turn up but if you're looking for someone with a specific skill let me know and I'll see if I can help locate them.  Few things to note:

  • Each item submitted will get a section of a shared room, volunteer practitoners and a 60-90 minute time period to work in.  It will be your responsibility to lead that time and how you choose to do that is totally up to you.  If you do not want to lead the process let me know and I'll try and arrange for a director to be part of the group.
  • We anticipate there will be 4 sessions in total throughout the day with the last being a Skill Swap.  As well as your session we would ask you to donate your skills to others in sessions you are not leading.  You are welcome to bring up to 3 separate items to work on in 3 separate sections - however if it looks like we are running out of space we will prioritize those who have not yet run a session.
  • You are welcome to bring work as a group and specify in advance who you want to work with (providing they are aware and happy with that).  Ie, 'Joe and I are working on a script together and have talked to Anna about performing in it but we need one other actor as well'; 'I've been working with Mair on a two person show but we're looking for someone to help with movement'. etc etc.
  • Please note this day is not about giving criticism or feedback.  It's an opportunity to work constructively with fellow practitioners.  If you'd like to show something and get feedback there will be a Scratch that Itch session in Swansea later in July where you'll have the opportunity to do that.

This is becoming a novel so I will sign off now!  Do get in touch with any questions or queries. It's the first time this session has run so we're working it all out as we go along.  The hope is to make it something that's useful for you so all feedback is very much welcome!  The more you input the better chance of getting something that works.

Cheers and hopefully see many of you in July!

Lisa

Cheers Emma - ending day with Skill Swap is going to be a lovely way to wrap things up and make sure everyone gets to chat to everyone else there.  Thanks so much to you and Peter for bringing it in!
