National Theatre Wales is keen to foster new directing talent.  We believe that one of the most effective ways to develop as a director is by spending time in the rehearsal room observing and supporting more experienced individuals.  Therefore, during our second year of work, we are again offering opportunities for emerging directors to become involved in six of our shows. 

Each emerging director will be given an all-in fee of £2,000 (to include any travel and accommodation costs you incur) and the successful candidates will need to commit to full time attendance during rehearsals (generally four or five weeks, plus the opening week).

To apply, please send us your CV and a letter explaining why an NTW Emerging Director role would be the right thing for your development.  Also identify up to three shows that you would be interested in involvement with, and explain why.  (We will only offer successful candidates one show, but this information will help us to match you to the right person.) Please provide names of two referees who know your work and let us know of any dates that you would not be available to take up a bursary.  Please also indicate any connections you have to Wales: NTW is focused on the development of theatre and theatre-makers in Wales.

We will work with the shows’ directors to match them with emerging directors based on the information received from you.  In some cases we may arrange interviews with the directors of shows for a small number of candidates.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday September 30th 2011, and we aim to make appointments during the Autumn (the first set of rehearsals starts in January).  We may take longer to match emerging directors to some of the later shows, but we will keep in touch with candidates about developments.
