Performance Re-enactment Workshop with Greg Wohead

Date: Tuesday 1st November

Location: Common Room, Chapter Arts Centre

Time: 1 – 4pm

Cost: £12 for the workshop only or £20 combined price for workshop and performance of Comeback Special (ideally participants would see the performance on Monday 31st October before coming to the workshop on the 1st November).

What’s the value of revisiting the past through a performed re-enactment? Can we ever get it right, or is it more valuable to get it wrong and to rewrite history? Greg Wohead’s Comeback Special is (sort of) a re-enactment of Elvis Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special. In this practical workshop he will share his strategies for the slippery process of re-enactment, and we will explore what it can mean to haunt a performance with ghosts of the past. We will find ways of generating material and shaping performances out of the ruins of political and personal histories, and we will mischievously insert ourselves into situations where we have no business being.

This workshop is directly linked to Greg’s latest show Comeback Special, which he is performing at Chapter on Monday 31st October and Tuesday 1st November. We are delighted to be able to offer a workshop alongside this but there are just 10 spaces available so if you would like to be considered, don’t delay! Please contact Olivia Harris at olivia@theatriolo.com no later than Monday 24th October  expressing your interest. Please include a couple of sentences about why you would like to be attend and what you’d like to get out of the workshop in your email.
