Plans to establish a new hyperlocal news site in Treorchy

My colleague Devinda and I have been inspired recently by the work and ambitions of Cardiff University's new Centre for Community Journalism, and are now embarking on an exciting new project with them - a new, hyperlocal news site in Treorchy.

The CCJ has already created a similar site in Cardiff - Pobl Caerdydd - and National Theatre Wales supported the Port Talbot Magnet when it was launched in 2011, just as The Passion was about to be staged in the town.

So where better to work together to create something similar, than the town where National Theatre Wales is resident throughout October, with so much going on?

If you're interested in local journalism and would like to contribute, there's more information below:

Cardiff University's Centre for Community Journalism is starting work in Treorchy to establish a new hyperlocal in partnership with National Theatre Wales, who are in residency in the Park and Dare Theatre during October. Want to know how you can get involved? Read on…

Are you interested in local news and views?  Do you feel that there should be more of a local voice in the Rhondda? Have you got a talent or a yearning for writing; filming or taking photos; digital media; or for knowing what’s going on and wanting to share it? Would you like to be part of a new venture to create news and information for your community?

Cardiff University’s Centre for Community to Journalism is here to help. We’ll provide the training, development and support. You connect the community and tell the stories.

Our first meeting takes place on Thursday 10 October, 6 – 7pm. If you are interested in finding out more or in being part of a team of committed and passionate community journalists, give Emma or Hannah a call on 029 208 70101, or email Emma at meesee@cf.ac.uk or Hannah at scarbroughh1@cf.ac.uk.
