Talk about diversity!!!! Congrats to NTW on the launch and making me drool. I know, there won't be everything to please everyone, but that's what theatre's about: you can't please everyone all the time...but you can have a damned good try. And if you think 'it's not for me' try it and see - you never know.

Which brings me to a salient point. There will be productions that people would love to get to, but due to circumstances, travel, work, etc., won't be able to. You'll see where they are, there'll be a blue cloud of bad language hovering round them like an atomic explosion. Has 'live streaming' been considered at all? They used it very effectively from the Royal national Theatre this year, twice in fact, broadcast to Cineworld, and were very successful. Not everyone can get to London, and even if the tickets are only a tenner, there's the travel to consider and also the prospect of staying overnight. Suddenly a tenner becomes over a hundred and people think twice.

If live streaming isn't possible, yet!!! why not record the productions and make them available either on DVD from the Cardiff offices in Castle Arcade, or even by post: or, or even online, from the NTW site. I am not suggesting they should be free of charge, but say for the price you would have paid for a ticket had you seen it 'live'. Not only would it bring more theatre nationwide, but push the boundaries and enable those in Brazil, L.A, NYC, New Zealand who can't get there, yet who tuned in for the launch to see the productions. NTW would become a major international player as well as being a true community theatre. It could also enable theatre students and practitioners to study the productions and enable those who've seen it once to re-live it.

Just a thought.....

I know, John: the anticipation, the nerves, the bucket in the corner, the hum of the audience, the bumns on seats and the feeling you're doing it for somebody you can see- and can see you. It's the immediacy. Apart from that there's also the risk that if it's a bad night for an actor...I know, it's not likely, but.... then it's captured forever. (Ah, that's the arguement against, oops).

Thanks for this input Stephen. Yes, we are looking at a range of digital possiblities, though of course the old fashioned theatre director in me just want eveyone to actually be there on the night!

Yep, certainly worth thinking about, so lets do the sums here, a guy to film the production, produce a DVD & then sell it on line, maybe from Castle arcade. Does that actually add up ? Does the copyright/license actually allow for that. RSC do it so if it's possible & it's viable why not.
