National Theatre Wales and travelling puppet company Heather & Ivan Morison’s Mr Clevver Puppet Company are preparing to take the hit puppet show Nuclear Family on tour across rural Wales this summer.
Inspired by a character from the 1980, cult, post-apocalyptic novel Riddley Walker by American Russell Hoban, this charming family show will roll into villages and towns all over the country, starting on Tuesday 6th August, and will be performed - with live music – in unusual locations such as castles, abbeys and forests.
A child learns to become an adult, but an adult struggling to remain afloat within the life he has made for himself. Nuclear Family examines some fundamental human truths, whilst also poking fun at governmental and religious power structures.
The two person puppet company Mr Clevver toured Tasmania in 2009-2012. As it did then, this summer the show’s old-fashioned truck and trailer will arrive and open up to reveal a stage and benches, and exquisite wooden puppets will perform to families right on their doorstep.
Some tour dates can be seen below, others will be a surprise as this is a gentle tour, moving at its own pace, and performing to those who come, wherever the trailer stops. New dates will be announced on National Theatre Wales’ Twitter account as and when they are confirmed - @ntwtweets #mrclevver.
