Update. 2nd performance of Wardrobe Diaries

I’ve committed to this blog, so it’s only right that I see it through, even in darker moments. It’s better for my health, and probably easier for any followers, if I stick to short paragraphs.

We opened last night with confused performers and sound and lighting cues still as work in progress. I called the cues to Dai, and we had a lot of fun seeing the company’s work take shape from the tech box.

For tonight’s show I gave performers a note on cranking up the enjoyment of their performance, and belief in what they’re doing. They were outstanding and made me forget that I had anything to do with the show.

I, as a first time director assuming that all technical cues would magically sort themselves out, sat in the audience seats and learned a big lesson about sound and lighting cues, and my responsibility as a director.

Also, we have our first review:

Congratulations on the show James, and well done to all the very fine cast. I think it's a really good piece of work with lots of wonderful moments. And once you've sorted out those light and sound cues it'll be even stronger.

Thank you for that Peter, and thank you for the glass of wine on a stool story.
Much appreciated.

Congratulations on the review James - they obviously 'got it' and enjoyed it. As ever though with a new show you'll be back in there honing and shaping and editing and trimming and tweaking and relighting and all those other etcetera's.... to be honest it seems like no time at all since your first day!
