Wales Millennium Centre Blysh Festival Walkabout Commission

Blysh%20Festival%20Commission.docx

Wales Millennium Centre would like to commission up to five new walkabout / street theatre performance pieces by an artist or company based or from Wales, to premiere at the 2014 Blysh Festival and be performed at events around Wales over the Summer, hopefully including the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli.

These performances can be in English, Welsh, Bilingual or non-language.

We’re inviting artists and companies to propose ambitious performance pieces that you really believe in. We want you to inspire us. This is an opportunity to collaborate with a producing team to create an extraordinary experience for festival audiences, and potentially beyond.

Blysh; Wales Millennium Centre's annual month-long festival of circus, cabaret and street arts.

Since its debut in 2009, Blysh has developed a clear and recognisable identity to become a highlight in Cardiff's cultural calendar. Blysh features the most up-and-coming, controversial and entertaining performers, showcasing new works, young artists and unique performances, ensuring Cardiff an exceptionally high profile with audiences and performers alike. Much of the Blysh activity programmed is free-to-attend in order to make the festival as accessible as possible.

Street Theatre is a form of theatrical performance and presentation in outdoor public spaces without a specific paying audience. These spaces can be anywhere, including shopping centres, car parks, recreational reserves and street corners. They are especially seen in outdoor spaces where there are large numbers of people.

Blysh runs from the 18th July – 3rd August.

What are we offering?

  • Up to £2500 commission fee (funding pending)
  • £300 per act for costumes, props, set (if required).
  • A director with experience working in this field will work across each piece in an advisory capacity
  • Contribution to rehearsal costs
  • Contribution to technical costs
  • A minimum of 5 performance opportunities at Blysh Festival 2014
  • A possible performance at the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli (language dependant)

  • Support and advocacy in exploring the life of the project beyond Blysh 2014.
