Taking Flight Theatre win National Diversity Award!

Dear Friends,

Taking Flight are delighted to announce that we are the recent recipients of a National Diversity Award!

The National Diversity Awards are designed to showcase the efforts of those who have demonstrated an outstanding devotion to enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion within today’s society. The awards  “celebrate the achievements of grass root communities that tackle the issues in today’s society, giving people and organisations the recognition for their dedication and hard work that positive role models, charities and community organisations do on a daily basis.”

The awards ceremony was held at The Queen’s Hotel in Leeds on Friday 20 September. Taking Flight was represented at the prestigious black tie event by actor Dan Edge, who performed in Taking Flight’s production Real Human Being. And to our great surprise, Taking Flight were announced as the winners of the Community Organisation Award for Disability! Organisers of the awards said of us:

“Taking Flight Theatre Company is the only proven organisation in the world that runs inclusive, outdoor, promenade theatre. An amazing array of nominations is a testament to the investment this small community organisation is putting into existing and nascent disabled artists. Taking Flight work tirelessly and selflessly to promote total inclusiveness in their professional productions, inspiring and encouraging new and would-be actors.  Very active in Wales, the group has toured with productions as varied as Twelfth Night to new drama depicting the effects of disability related hate crime. All performances are staged in accessible venues and are fully described for those with sensory impairments. Feedback on Taking Flight’s work is stunning and just about sums up what is a perfect example of a small community organisation making a real difference for disabled people.”

We are obviously thrilled with the award and the recognition of our work that it represents. We are so lucky that we get to do something we feel so passionately about for a living - it's an honour to get an award for doing it as well, and quite unexpected!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued support. Our aim is to continue to build on our successes so far and to grow and develop as a company and we hope you will join us on this journey.

Very best wishes,

Beth and Elise
