Casting call - Common Wealth - Nationalisation!

\NATIONALISATON! (Working title)

Nationalisation! is a bold, site-specific play that explores what it would feel like for a community to commonly own our public utilities (gas, water, electricity, transport, post, etc) and imagines a time when this would be possible. We will be working with a community cast and a full creative team to create a powerful atmosphere of celebration and community spirit. This is an R&D week supported by National Theatre Wales in The Gurnos, Merthyr, South Wales with acclaimed, award winning theatre company Common Wealth.

We are looking to recruit 4 actors:

  • One male actor to play Alan aged 50-60 years old. Well-built. Alan is an ex-miner and has been unemployed for some time but is dedicated to feeling useful and practical again. Must have South Wales Valley’s accent.
  • One female actor to play Sue aged 50-60 years old. Sue was active throughout the miners strikes and is active in the resurgence of Nationalisation. Sue is passionate and loyal to her community. Must have South Wales Valley’s accent.
  • One female actor to play Anya aged 20-28 years old. Polish, must be able to speak Polish as a second language / have British Polish accent. Anya has lived in Britain for eight years and is employed at the local meat factory; she is bold, outspoken and practical. We are also open to applications from actors of Portugese heritage.
  • One male actor to play Lee aged 18- 21years old. Lee is eager, loud and likes a good time. South Wales Valley’s accent.
