EXPERIMENTICA15 - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Hello Everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying (or not) this hot, sticky humid weather we find ourselves working in...

I just thought I would let you all know about the EXPERIMENTICA15 call out for submissions and to kindly ask those that have, to spread the word!

The deadline for submissions is Midday on Friday 10 July - so it is approaching FAST! For those of you who don't know about the festival then let me help;

What is EXPERIMENTICA?

Established in 2001, EXPERIMENTICA is an annual five-day Festival organised by Chapter in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

EXPERIMENTICA hosts a dynamic programme of live art, performance and interdisciplinary projects and offers a significant platform for UK and international artists to produce or introduce their work.

EXPERIMENTICA is an opportunity for artists at all stages in their career to present challenging, experimental works within an open, supportive and artist-focused environment.

EXPERIMENTICA can be entertaining, dangerous, confusing, life-affirming, playful, provocative, thoughtful, witty, engaging, irritating and everything in between.

EXPERIMENTICA is committed to supporting artists who engage with live practice and employ an experimental approach.

This years starting point - in the broadest sense -  is truth/fiction. We're interested in stories and the storytellers, the anecdotal accounts, the need to be honest, or not. The myths that need dispelling, the political, the nonsensical and everything in between.....

EXPERIMENTICA15: ARE YOU ASKING FOR EVIDENCE OF THE TRUTH?

Wed 4 - Sun 8 November

“How negotiable is a fact in nonfiction?” In 2003, an essay by writer John D’Agata was rejected by the magazine that commissioned it due to factual inaccuracies. That essay — which eventually became the foundation of D’Agata’s critically acclaimed ‘About a Mountain’ — was accepted by another magazine, The Believer, but not before they handed it to their own fact-checker, Jim Fingal.”

The Lifespan of a Fact, 2012

What emerges from this quasi fictional account of the exchanges between D’Agata and Fingal - and from seven years of increasingly aggressive arguments, negotiations and revisions - is the struggle to navigate the boundaries of nonfiction, truth, belief, history, myth, memory and forgetting.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

This year EXPERIMENTICA is looking for new versions of the truth.

We are looking for artists who are engaged in the creation of experimental live performance, writing, sound, film and video, installation, dance and theatre.

We are keen to hear from artists who want to participate in discussions around their practice in a supportive and social environment, who want to share ideas, expand understandings and reflect on experiences during the festival.

We welcome proposals from individuals and groups who are excited by the possibility of experimentation and by those who take risks.

You may want to work in a new way that engages with the festival and its wider context whether live, online, in print, through radio or other broadcast means.

If you have an idea that you would like to test out; a fully realised work that you would like to show for the first time, or a performance that you have shown before but would like the chance to bring it to new audiences, we would like to hear from you.

WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?

  • All artists will receive a fee. In addition we will pay for your travel (up to £750) and accommodation during your time at the festival.
  • Technical and marketing support as well as inclusion in our EXPERIMENTICA guide.
  • High-resolution photographic documentation of your work.
  • A free EXPERIMENTICA festival pass to enable you to see as much as you can while you’re here

For more information on how to apply and to download an application form you can visit Chapter's website here or join the festivals Facebook group here

We hope to hear from you soon!
