The Boy That Broke the Pegs follows dramatic episodes in the lives of three autistic young people, whose lives have diverged widely as they have reached adulthood. Their different stories show different facets of the autistic experience but all of them are centred on the difficult interface between people with autism and wider society and on different manifestations of acceptance and exclusion, of friendship and loneliness, of making connection and misunderstanding.
- Dad? What will I be when I grow up?
- Well… What would you like to be?
- A normal man. Like Daddy.
The play explores the feeling that some high-functioning autistic people have, of living in a strange alien world, struggling and often failing to understand complex social codes and signs
These issues are explored in a richly visual production featuring a live musical score
