A48 THEATRE COMPANY is a new, Cardiff-based, company with the following purpose:
“to investigate, initiate and develop International collaborative Theatre projects with like-minded Theatre Companies based outside the UK.
This will be achieved by means of:
rehearsing and presenting high quality professional, pro-am, or Community joint productions of appropriate and agreed plays, in Theatres and venues local to the Companies involved;
and/ or touring its own production/s to Theatres and venues local to the partner Company/ies;
and/ or exchanges of personnel/ work/ ideas/ resources.”
In order to lay foundations for the above work, we intend to stage in October (sometime between Monday 01 and Wednesday 17) a run of either Public OR Private performances of “ENDGAME” – Samuel Beckett’s brilliant (and some say best) short play and an original piece, yet to be devised by the Company - provisionally titled “MAMGU” (“GRANDMOTHER”).
Auditions will be held from 7 to 10pm on THURSDAY 02 AUGUST, and from 1 to 4pm on SUNDAY 05 AUGUST – venue to be finalised, but possibly at Christ Church Church Hall, Radyr, CF15 8DY.
“ENDGAME” – an apocalyptic, bizarre play, set in one room; with 4 characters:
HAMM (blind; controlling; confined to an armchair – cannot stand);
CLOV – (a servant; looks after Hamm; cannot sit!);
NAGG (Hamm’s father; kept in a dustbin by Hamm; lost both legs in cycling accident);
NELL (Hamm’s mother; Nagg’s wife; no legs either; kept in a separate dustbin).
“MAMGU” – will possibly feature two Grandmothers; together with some Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren of varying ages and gender; issues and pleasures around relationships with Grandparents (we may even feature a Grandfather or two!); this piece will be devised by the actors, together with the Director and interested writers from “Living Lines”.
Auditions will consist of workshops – readings of extracts from “Endgame’, together with some improvisation work – please familiarise yourself with the Beckett and be prepared to be creative! Group work rather than individuals.
Auditions last between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on numbers; please choose a slot – on the hour, or half hour, on the preferred date, and let me know asap;
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Tuesday 07 AUGUST – 7pm – venue to be finalised and confirmed; rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday (afternoon/ evening) and Sunday afternoons – depending on casting and availability of participants;
Audition Forms – will be sent out by e-mail as soon as we receive notice of interest.
