This group is here for people interested in, involved in and affected by the play The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning. Join in and contribute as we develop the play further and re-stage our artistic response to his story, and his relationship with Wales.

You can read a blog post by TIm Price on why he wanted to tell this story here.

We're updating a Storify Story around the 2013 remounting, and you can see that here.

----------

This play is a fictional account which has been inspired by a true story. The incidents, characters and time lines have been changed for dramatic purposes. In some cases fictitious characters and incidents have been added to the plot, and the words are those imagined by the author. The play should not be understood as a biography or any other factual account.

Well excited about this design Chloe - thanks for posting photos! Here's something that will be of interest to anyone following the development of the play. Jen from NTW has been curating a Storify story of the play's development - real insight into the play as we bring it to live.

Here are a couple of images from the design process for The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning.

The images here, are part of some visual ideas for the show, rather than the final design - I wanted to give a flavour of where we are heading....

These are a couple of design ideas that are photoshopped onto images of the school halls that we will perform the show in.

The idea is that the space will use objects found in schools, in army barracks, in offices - those plastic chairs, lockers, desks, computers.. we will create an environment for the play from these objects.

More soon...

Ignore bit about email and delay in previous post - it was a delay to do with documentation, not trial date, that the Judge had already refused.

Meanwhile the defence doesn't want to go beyond June for the trial; the prosecution wants August...

At Bradley's Arraignment today (the first stage of the actual Court Martial, though not the trial), the prosecution asked for YET MORE TIME - they now want to delay till AUGUST 2012, which, as David Coombs, Brad's lawyer, pointed out in objection, would mean Bradley would be 800 days imprisoned without trial.  Apparently the govt. already rejected the delay and notified both parties but the prosecution said they 'didn't receive the email...'  David Coombs said he did.

The Court will reconvene 15th and 16th March.

Bradley deferred his plea and the decision on whether to be tried by Judge or Jury (panel of 5; 3 reqd to convict).

At the end a supporter asked loudly (depending on whose version!) either 'will there now be a trial for war crimes' or 'Judge - isn't it a soldier required to report a war crime?'

maybe it was both.....

Reports over the weekend in Western Telegraph and Wales On Line about Bradley being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the parliamentary group called The Movement, of the Icelandic Parliament - you can read the letter they sent nominating him at http://joyb.blogspot.com/2012/02/bradley-manning-nobel-peace-prize....

Hi everyone,

There's an opportunity to vote for  Bradley Manning to win the 'people's choice'  in Global Exchange's human rights award, for exposing war crimes and corporate influence & abuse. Vote for Bradley here

Bradley's arraignment is set for February 23rd, at this hearing we should hear the date for his court martial, likely to be sometime in May. At this hearing, Bradley will finally be allowed to enter a plea.

We're now in the middle of auditions for the piece - and meeting some great actors.  It's going to be a cast of 6 playing dozens of parts.  Tim is on to draft 8 of the script!!  I think the current draft is in a very good state - the shape of the play is there and it will be great to start exploring it in the rehearsal room.  We've confirmed all three schools where we will perform the show - Tasker Milward in Haverford West, Cardiff High School, and Connah's Quay in Flintshire.  Some people are a bit confused by the school locations - they think it's a show for school audiences, but in fact the school is a site-specific setting for the play and audiences will be of all ages, performed in the evenings. However, we will do workshops in all the schools during the rehearsal period to engage with the young people there, learn from them about their live, and encourage them to come to the show.  Meanwhile the design team is working away at a really interesting design, and we have some exciting ideas about online activity during the shows.  Watch this space!

A great message from Bradley's family via the campaign has just been posted on Facebook:

“I want you to know how much Bradley and his family appreciate the continuing support of so many, especially during the recent Article 32 hearing. I visited Bradley the day after Christmas--he is doing well and his spirits are high." --Bradley’s Aunt Debra
