VELELA! (POP-UP) FESTIVAL 16-30 JUNE 2012
Calling: performers / dancers / visual artists / poets/ graffiti artists / spoken-word artists / live artists / writers / filmmakers /digital artists /actors to create new short works as part of Phakama Pop-up Festival 2012.
Are you a newly graduate drama student, an emerging artist or an already established young artist looking for new opportunities to develop your work? Would you be interested in collaborating with other young artists to create new short pieces, which explore the natural and built environment? Then we would like to invite you to become one of the Pop-up Artists in Residence as part of Velela! (Pop-up) Festival.
Project Phakama is an international youth arts organisation driven by the desire to make high-quality arts. It believes that individuals’ stories have the power to move, challenge and inform. Phakama creates shared spaces for young artists to express, grow and perform. Project Phakama is funded by Arts Council England and is an arts organisation in residence at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL). For more information go to www.phakama.org
Phakama’s first Velela! (Pop-up) Festival will take place in London in June. Nearly 100 young people from eight different countries will create a Festival during a two-week creative residency for young people, emerging artists, youth workers, academics and an array of other professionals. Through its participatory methodology and rigorous artistic process the Velela! (Pop-up) Festival will embrace experimentation, participatory processes, public performances and intercultural creative dialogues in partnership with young people, artists with a proven track record in participatory practices, international and national partners and organisations based in East London.
Gavin Porter and Kyle Legall have been commissioned by Vinci construction to develop an engagement project with young people from Butetown and Surrounding areas. We are looking for four people with any creative skill to bring a different perspective to the devising workshop and what the creative day could be, people who may have a knowledge of the area, but haven't lived in Butetown. So if you are interested please email Gavin Porter: contact@ideasexchange.org
Ideas Exchange 05 is creative day which will take place at the Roath Basin (or similar venue to be identified) in Cardiff Bay in July or August of 2012. The day will be the climax of a two month period of activities and arts initiatives where Butetown will be used as an art space, working with a group of young creatives from Butetown and surrounding areas.
The creative day will be a mixture of performance and task/arts based activities for the audience to get involved with and will last approximately 4 hours.
Young people will be at the core of the event, in devising, organising and performing.
On the 9th July we are running a devising day at the BEAT Centre, West Close, Butetown, 11am - 4pm, where we aim to get approximately 16 young people and four adults from various disciplines to think about and help shape the creative day. We will look at what issues, if any, the creative day should explore. The group will be shown various arts initiatives that people are developing around the world and see if the young people would like to, in groups or as individuals, interpret for they’re own environment. There is a small budget that the young people will be able to spend on their project. Each of these small initiatives should feed into the final event.
Although there is an arts or creative base to this project, the young people involved do not have to have artistic skills, there are plenty of ways to get involved and just as importantly we will find away for the young peoples skills to be included in the project. Eagerness is the main skill needed.
Some of the roles we are looking for are:
Artists
Poets/M.C
Photographer
Videographer
Bloggers
Facilitators
Cooks
Costume
Make Up
Production Assistants
......or any other skill.
