WalesLab information

WalesLab was NTW's initiative for supporting emerging artists and new ideas for performance. This is a group and discussion forum for those artists involved in WalesLab or those interested in learning more about the various projects under development.

WalesLab consisted of:

Summercamp:

A summer camp for up to twenty theatre makers and artists of varied experience to share ideas, learn form each other and stimulate new collaborations and projects (watch the video below to find out more).

WalesLab projects -

Small groups working for around 1-2 weeks based somewhere in Wales.

Germinate:    Three times a year small groups of artists will be offered the opportunity to spend around two weeks somewhere in Wales developing an idea or project which they have already begun working on, and will share their work with a local audience. There will be three Germinate projects a year, one of which will have an international element.

WalesLab is no longer open for new submissions. Have a look at the 'Your Work' page on the NTW website to find out about how to share your ideas with the company.

Hello...can anybody tell me whether it is considered appropriate for people to put links to their film work on here to get feedback from colleagues and other members.

Heres a video from today of mine & Anna's WalesLab project Sh!t: I'm Single.

Owners Darren & Karen tell us the reasons the people they saw this morning were single! They also offer some 'helpful' advice...

Hello theatre explorers - we have a couple of places left on our ...

GROTOWSKI WORKSHOP at Sherman Cymru on 3rd August:

This is a one day workshop for actors, dancers, directors and choreographers exploring ‘fixed and flowing’ performance techniques as practiced by multi award-winning Bulgarian Theatre Company ‘Alma Alter’ who make experimental work influenced by the Poor Theatre philosophy of Jerzy Grotowski.

The workshop will explore physical theatre, choreography and chorus (the fixed) and how they can combine with improvisation, audience interaction and the performer’s impulse (the flowing).

The workshop will be from 10am – 5pm and is free. This is hopefully the first step towards establishing a new company working with these principles. If you could send an email briefly explaining your interest and experience that would be fab.

Hi all,

I'm really pleased to be able to tell you that WalesLab is now taking new submissions. (I'm really excited about this)

We've created a new form that lives on the website's WalesLab page which will help give us an idea of the project that you would like to work on. Its pretty straight forward. You can also use it to send us video links or images if you feel that would better portray your ideas.Have a look at it here

If you haven't applied before then there is also information for you about how to get involved, the first step is to join the WalesLab group, so if you're reading this then you're already half way there.

The other development (which I am really pleased about) is that we can now take submissions ALL YEAR ROUND. To make it possible for a group of us to consider the ideas together, there are some cut off points every now and then but these will all be posted online to keep you in the loop. The first one will be 30th Aug for the really keen amongst you....

Give me a shout on here if you have any questions about your project, there's also a FAQ's page that may help.

Can't wait to see what you are all working on!

Hi all.

On Thursday 1st Aug at 2pm we have a really interesting creative visit from Sibylle Peters, who will be talking about her work. This will be of particular interest to those of you who work with or would like to find out more about interactivity or lecture as performance. If you'd like to come along please email me gavinporter(at)nationalthatrewales.org.

Here is a short biog:

Sibylle Peters, Dr. phil. is the director of the Research Programme at FUNDUS THEATER Hamburg. As performer and director Sibylle has realised numerous projects, for example with the performance collective geheimagentur. Key aspects in her research and artistic production are: the lecture as performance, the theory of assemblies, the media use of time, transdisciplinary research processes, theatricality and evidence, the theory of the improbability drive. Her most recent publication is Der Vortrag als Performance / The Lecture as Performance (Bielefeld 2011). Within the postgraduate programme “Assemblies and Participation”, Sibylle is responsible for the section “Cultural Education and Research”.

There's a great offer here from The Egg, in Bath.

If you are interested in making theatre for young audiences, definitely worth getting in touch.

More info below:

The egg theatre seeks writers and theatre-makers for a new three-year writing and dramaturgy scheme

The egg theatre has received funding from The Leverhulme Trust to develop a specialist Arts Scholarship programme over the next three years. Between 2013 and 2015 the egg theatre will offer 5 Arts Scholarships per annum to talented artists and theatre-makers, providing space and time for ideas to flourish as well as a strategy for developing skills in making work for young audiences.
