Call for expressions of interest from Composers/Soundscape Artists

Citrus & Walk The Plank are recruiting Welsh, or Wales associated Composers/Soundscape Artists to join them for a period of research and development to explore historical stories and myths of Wreckers, Smugglers and Shipwrecks around the coastal towns of Wales.

The eventual aim is to create a series of 75-minute promenade performances including art installations, bonfires and fire sculptures, processions, music, theatre, dance, and circus spectacle as an event for and with the people of the locations we visit.

We would like to hear from interested minds who would like to join us for the first stage of our creative journey.

The successful candidate will be given a brief for them to develop independently, before attending a 3-day creative residency in a coastal location in Wales during January 2014.

A fee and expenses will be paid.

This is not a commission, but is an invitation to take the first steps on a creative mission with us.

We’re on a journey, and we don’t know where we’re heading:

A young sailor seeks his chance to jump as the mast sways close to the cliffs.

Women wade in the surf, hurling scarves for sailors to grab hold.

A Clergyman and his horse brave rescues where others have failed.

A Captain instructs his crew to sew coins into their clothes to pay for their burials in the morning.

A cargo of oranges washes-up on a beach where oranges had never been seen before.

The Dollar Ship’s treasure is exposed at low tides.

The men of the small axes strip vessels to husks before they can be claimed.

Compasses fail

Rocks attract lightning

Smugglers, wreckers, phantoms

Cursed vessels

Deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 13th December

Please send examples of your work and a CV/Biography/Resume should be sent to james@citrusarts.co.uk

Selected candidates must be available from 15th to 20th January

I have had the pleasure of working with Leo on a number of occasions, he is a wonderful artist and continues his quest into all things 'human'. Sadly I am not able to attend his talk but highly recommend spending time listening to his thinking and ideas.
