Hi Creatives,

just in case any of you are lurking in London this week - I'm performing with the actor-led collective The Factory in their version of The Odyssey directed by the brilliant Tim Carroll. It's a big story-telling mash-up - very chaotic, very live. Love to see any of you there ...

Cast Your Vote

Voting opened last Friday for next stage of the Big Democracy Project. We invited proposals from across North Wales and the three ideas that are now up for public vote are three really strong and relevant ideas. The public will now decide which idea gets developed in an Assembly (performance/debate event) by voting for the one they feel chimes with them.

Central to the Big Democracy Project is how can we create the Wales we want? With action through art The Big Democracy project will help communities find their voice and explore issues that are important locally and nationally.

The themes are Homelessness, Voter Apathy and Rural Travel, more information can be found here www.nationaltheatrewales.org/big-democracy-project

Crashmat Collective are looking for a CSM for their upcoming tour of Façade. The start date is 28th September 2014 for rehearsals in Cardiff leading onto tour dates:

9th – 11th October – The Riverfront, Newport
13th – 15th October - Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth
16th – 18th October - Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff

29th – 31st October – Y Ffwrness, Llanelli

12th – 14th November – The Albany, London
19th – 22nd November – Arts Depot, London

24th – 26th November – Theatre Hafren, Newtown

(TBC) 21st – 22nd December – Pontio, Bangor

The first day is a get in day, which includes, rigging (done by each aerial artist), lighting plot, rehearsal into the space and tech/dress.
We would need the CSM to be able to Plot and operate the sound and assist with the rig and plot of lighting. They will also need to do some of the liaison with the venues with regards to the show and the food, prior to arrival and during set up. Other job specifics to be discussed.
The person should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to represent the company in a professional and friendly manner at all times.
Circus Experience is an advantage but not essential as this is a theatre piece. Ideally you would also be based in or near Cardiff.
Full UK Drivers licence.
Please send a cover letter and CV to aerialist.acrobat@gmail.com and annasand@yahoo.co.uk Closing date for applications is: 25th August 2014, we will then shortlist and arrange a meeting in the following week.

Please only apply if you are available for all the listed dates.
Crashmat Collective are a Cardiff based company that investigate original concepts and experiential live performance; Circus-theatre that blurs the boundaries between performer and audience.
Façade is an intimate and theatrical three course meal, during which, stories unfold about the waiters in a restaurant. All of the staff in the restaurant are the performers and they serve the customers their drinks and food in the ‘mundane’ world. Each person’s story is told through the soundtrack over the mundane world in which we can hear their thoughts; and through a series of vignettes in ‘magic reality’ where circus and heightened performance are possible. The action happens around the audiences, on their tables and is very up close.
Façade offers an in depth circus-theatre experience that blurs the boundaries between performer and audience.
Crashmat are supported by: Arts Council of Wales and Arts Council England. This production is in association with: Wales Millennium Centre, The Riverfront and Creu Cymru and has additional support from: Jacksons Lane and NoFit State Circus.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for an Assistant Designer to work with me on a production of Crazy Gary's Mobile Disco, produced by Waking Exploits, and opening at Chapter Arts Centre before a Welsh tour. Matt Ball is directing. We start rehearsals on 26th Aug, and the show opens on 17th Sept, so if you're interested, you'll need to have good availability during that time. I'm ideally looking for someone Cardiff-based, who is training as a designer or recently graduated, and would like to get some experience being in a rehearsal room with a professional team. We're creating the design as we rehearse, so it's a good one if you're into devising and collaborative theatre making. It's an unpaid position but there is some money towards expenses. Please email me at ali.neighbour@googlemail.com if you are interested. Thanks!

WALESLAB DEADLINE EXTENSION

I decided to move the deadline for the next shortlisting day back to the end of Sep. Should give people some time to get over the craziness of Edinburgh and summer fun.

So the deadline is 26th Sep at noon.

Please give me a shout if you are thinking of submitting an idea and want to talk through your ideas.

Hello Creatives: are you a video artist? WalesLab is looking for someone to collaborate with Yo Nakamura, an exciting dancer and choreographer from Japan who will be visiting Wales in a few weeks. Look here for details of this paid NTW opportunity...
