Hi,
This includes cuts to Artes Mundi, Cardiff Contemporary, Cardiff Singer of the World and many other arts and cultural organisations and venues. (This is in addition to previous years' decisions, including tendering out St David's Hall and the New Theatre to new operators.) There is more context on the council budget and Arts Council of Wales' announced 5% funding cut here in The Stage.
We are convening a joint meeting of arts and cultural venues, organisations, artists and freelancers, to:
1 - create a co-ordinated response - please come along and help to create a clear set of messages we can present to the council as citizens, organisations and the sector
2 - plan how to engage the public and media in responding to this budget proposal
In the medium term, we hope that this discussion can mark the beginning of the sector and the council developing a more engaged and long-term relationship.
Even if you are not directly dependent on Cardiff local authority funding, there may be organisations with which you collaborate or engage which will be affected by this proposal. These cuts will also have direct impacts on audiences/ attenders, some of whom might be your ticket buyers, participants, volunteers, etc. And of course it will impact the profile of Cardiff as a creative city. Please come and contribute ideas as to how we can support our colleagues and the wider creative sector in the city.
Wednesday 16th December 2015, 09.15-10.30 at Cardiff University
(building/ room TBC depending on numbers attending, confirmed early next week)
