Shwmae from Japan!!

This is Yasuro Ito of Undergroud Airport who joined Waleslab project in 2014.8!

And we are very happy to announce that we will realize the idea we developed in Waleslab "Red Dragon and Soil Traveller" in March 3rd to 13th in Japan!! (at Sumida Park Studio Kura Theatre in Tokyo)

This play is a metaphysical tale of the nuclear relationship between Wales and Japan, quoting the story of Branwen of Mabinogi and Red Dragon Myth.

Here is Trailer Music Video of "A Song for Dragon" which we created and sang at Chapter Art Studio.

We use a caldron as a prop which Rhisiart and Dave in Newport gave us as a memory of Wales!

And Caldron will become the symbol of "Fire" which the traveller brings to the rural town in Somewhere.

We use high functional Drone for this video! Please check it out!

AND, WE WILL DO FREE LIVE STREAMING OF "Red Dragon and Soil Traveller" on 12th March!!!

We thank National Theatre Wales, people who supported our visit and research, we will do free live streaming of this musical play with English subtitles on 12th March. It starts from 7pm in Japan,so 11am in Wales!!

So, please check the Underground Airport Web Lounge on 12th of March!!

We started Crowd funding for this streaming! (but it is written only in Japanese! Sorry!!)

We are very excited to create this story! And would like to give all of our heart to each of you in Wales!!

This piece is made by your kindness and support in Wales!! We deeply thank you and will give all back!!

What is the most pressing issue facing Wales?

NTW are taking over the Senedd and Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay as a part of the Big Democracy Project (BDP) on 19thMarch 2016. We are hosting a series of conversations and performances that will explore art/democracy.

A question we will be trying to answer throughout the day is ‘What is the most pressing issue facing Wales?’

Between 2pm and 7pm we are opening up the Pierhead Building to artists and makers to consider this question. Do you have an idea that could explore this or democracy in a wider context?

We are looking expressions of interest from artists who would like to be a part of the day. This could be something created specially for the day, inspired by our central question or something you have already made.

NTW will provide a basic tech setup, lighting, sound and projector in the main hall of the Pierhead building and we have the capacity to expand into some of the smaller spaces in building if needed.

If you're interested in being involved please send a proposal outline to gavinporter@nationaltheatrewlaes.org by Monday 15th Feb, 5.30pm with an outline of what it is you'd like to do, how long it would last (plus set-up/ get out) and what tech support it might need.

*Involvement is on a voluntary basis.

More information about the BDP at the Senedd can be found here www.nationaltheatrewales.org/big-democracy-project-senedd

Hi TEAM,

I would like to invite you to two preview performances of Omidaze and Wales Millennium Centre's co-production, the new promenade all-female performance of Shakespeare's HENRY VI.

These performances will happen before the production opens next week. We would love to invite you for a sneak peek! Come and see this exciting production for free and hang out with other TEAM members at the same time!

HENRY VI is a co-production between Omidaze and Wales Millennium Centre; it's the first collaboration since Omidaze became a resident associate company of the Centre.
The show runs 1 - 20 February 2016 in the roof void of the WMC. The show is exciting, it's promenade in an unusual performance space.  Henry VI is an aerial artist, so she spends most of her time flying around the ceiling on silks and ropes.
We have two shows for you to attend before we open, for free:
7.30pm on Saturday 30th January (arrive at 7.15pm for check-in)
and
10.30am on Monday 1st February (arrive at 10.15am for check-in)
If you would like to come to one of these shows, please RSVP to me (catherinepaskell@gmail.com) before FRIDAY 29th JANUARY if you would like to guarantee your place, as we have limited audience capacity in the Roof Void.
We would love you to attend. Please come and say hello to me (co-producer) and the show's director, Yvonne Murphy, who runs Omidaze productions. We are always looking to meet other theatre makers, and anyone who wants to get involved in theatre making / theatre watching. We would love to hear what you do and what you think of the show.
I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully welcoming you to the show this weekend.
You can read more about the show on my blog post here.

Hi TEAM,

There are 2 Waleslab Sharings taking place this week that you are more than welcome to join us for! Email simoncoates@nationaltheatrewales.org to RSVP. Here's some more info . . .

Tuesday 26th Jan - 3pm

Sherman Cymru, Senghennydd Road, Cathays, Cardiff, CF24 4YE

Jonny Cotsen, Mr and Mrs Clark

Imagine you are in a small room with a hundred people talking all at once. You can’t make sense of the sound. You can’t hear one sound over another. It all sounds like one distorted track, with no words. This is what is has been like for me all my life...trapped. This is my world as a deaf person. Louder Is Not Always Clearer will be an interactive performance that will draw the audience into a deaf person’s world.

Friday 29th Jan- 3pm

Llanover Hall Arts centre

Romilly Rd, Cardiff CF5 1FH

Jain Boon

How can we create a piece of theatre around trauma? Does theatre have a place in examining trauma? How do we talk about trauma?

How can we create a piece of theatre that does not traumatise the audience and ourselves?

How do we face adversity? How do we heal ourselves? How do we survive?

How do we live together? How does trauma affect our communities?

How can I create something so different to anything I have ever done before which has more in common with European post dramatic theatre than a traditional play with plot and characters?

ArtWorks Cymru has invited artists, organisations and further and higher education institutions to come forward with proposals that will share and build on good practice, and could generate new working solutions that may ‘change the conversation’ around participatory arts in Wales.

We want to stimulate new and existing partnerships to work together to explore some of the key issues at the heart of the ArtWorks Cymru program:

  • a training network for participatory artists across Wales
  • connections between artists, arts organisations and further and higher education
  • innovative methods for exchange of practice
  • links between non-arts commissioners and artists
  • digital methods for growing the community of practice in Wales
  • links across art forms, sectors, settings, and career stages.

Seed Fund Two is now open for applications.

Please submit a proposal by 5pm on Monday 25th January 2016 at the latest.
