I used to be a huge collector of books and plays and reference tomes and anything printed by Penguin circa 1960 etc. The trouble is, one moves around so much (peculiarly been in the same house for 4 years now, a bit of record since leaving home) and it is such a chore keeping boxes and boxes (and I do mean dozens) and moving them or finding a home for them.
But, wouldn't it be magical if the play you wanted to read was just a couple of clicks and a postage stamp or two away?
That's why I got to thinking about this great community that we're all involved in. I thought about how we are all here trying to expand our appreciation of performance/art/creativity etc and that sometimes our horizons are limited by either the money in our pocket or by the fact of a book being out of print and difficult to get hold of.
So, I wondered whether like minded individuals would be up for a bit of, not swapping, but organised lending/borrowing of scripts initially.
Isn't it a pain when you come across and old audition speech from college, or wherever, and you can't find your copy of the whole play?
Well, I decided to set up a group on the
National Theatre Wales community site called
"Plays We Want To Read". It's there for anyone and everyone to post up requests for plays that you're interested in reading for whatever reason, but can't seem to get hold of.
Please do
join the group, even if you currently don't need anything. It'll help spread the word anyway.
And if anyone has any suggestions for making it work easily and simply then do let the
whole group know.
Thanks for reading this,
and happy sharing ...
Rob
