Do you want to take part in the ASSEMBLY programme?

This group is for anyone who is interested in getting involved in the parallel programme running alongside the shows.
The Assembly is a gathering of local artists and audiences in a particular space and under a theme dear to them. Its format will juxtapose questions, dialogue, theatre and performance and propose different ways of creating, exchanging and hopefully, thinking.
If you are an artist, a theatre goer or just curious, please check this group regularly.

The Big Democracy Project - Bangor

October 4thsaw the first event of the Big Democracy project taking place in Penrhyn Hall, Bangor. It had taken three months to get to this point, from inviting ideas to three ideas being voted on to producing the event.

The chosen proposal was put forward by Bethesda poet Martin Daws – The Poetry Party – which looked at voter apathy.

We put the show together in 4 days and it’s a huge testament to the artist’s skill to create such quality performances and that amount of time.

It was really great to work with Martin, Nikki, Rhys, Ali and Sophie and the rest of the crew and it seemed that everyone who attended responded to the performance and contributed to the conversation.

I think that the evening provided a great platform for honest, heartfelt conversation and it seems that there is an apatite for political discussion, in what was described as a ‘safe space’. It was also great to hear some brilliant poetry (a big thank you to Sophie for taking one for the team, she's quite left wing really :)

Below are some of the things said on the night

Only the rich have democracy • Make things work for the people • A change in how people are voted into office • Do we need party politics • Less inequality • Build a new politic of the people • Convictional politicians • Spoilt Ballots don’t get counted • We have to accept democracy with all its faults • Have every really experienced true democracy? • Is what we have a democracy? •  It’s a broken system but it’s the only system we have • Voting isn’t worth the effort • Sometimes its based on the tradition of who your family voted for • I say no boarders no nations • Anarchism is responsibility • I don’t know anyone who votes • Im trying to pull my finger out and make a difference

Details of the next Big Democracy event will be released soon.

We you like to collaborate with NTW on our next Assembly?

NTW Assembly, March 29th 2014 from National Theatre Wales on Vimeo.

We are inviting proposals from across Wales from anyone who has an idea on what subject the next National Theatre Wales Assembly should explore, and where it can take place. The date is set for March 29th 2014.

If you would like to collaborate with National Theatre Wales on an exciting and innovative project that looks at local or global issues in a creative way, we would like to hear from you.

We are excepting proposals from across Wales from anyone who has an idea for the next Assembly, this can be an individual, a community group or voluntary organisation or people working in the creative sector, we'd love to hear from anyone. The deadline for proposals is no later than 5pm on 2nd February 2014.

Proposals will then be shortlisted and the shortlist will be put to a public vote.

We are particularly interested in hearing ideas that have a local and national/global relevance.

If you have any questions or would like to meet up for a chat or talk over the phone then please get in touch with me. my email is gavinporter@nationaltheatrewales.org and my mobile number is 07889757662, or for more info visit www.nationaltheatrewales.org/assembly

Hi,Last night at Clwb y Bont was cosy and creative,NTW01 Valleys Team. Thanks for everyone who joined in the discussions and performances.A special mention must go to the Pumpkin soup and hand made mince pies.
What did people think of the format of the evening? Was the venue suitable? Do you think we did anything to answer the question,What is a fringe anyway?
A few of us had a chat in the bar later and would like to see something happening again early next year,if you weren't there last night try to come along for the next one.TCx

If you missed it - here's what happened at the Prestatyn Assembly. What does a Welsh person sound like?

Prestatyn residents answer the question: What does a Welsh person sound like?

As a Cardiffian, I particularly like the attitudes towards South Wales!
